Returned Soldier Fights For Custody Of Children
Returned Soldier Fights For Custody Of Children

A soldier who grew up in Akron, Lancaster County, is now home from Iraq. He's finished his fight overseas, and now his fight is to get his children back.

Sgt. Ben Byers' homecoming hasn't been as happy as he hoped it would be.

"It hurts. It really hurts," Byers said.

1. Can anyone shed any light on this story?
There seems to be something left out. Why would the father need "supervised visits" with the children, if it was his wife's fault that they were not cared for? And if it was the wife's fault, how come her parents got custody? Something isn't being told...

2. From the news article:
"Under Texas law, that guardianship is in effect indefinitely, meaning Byers needs to ask a judge for his children back."

Attempts to reach the mother were unsuccessful. This is the second time an incident like this has occurred while Byers was away.

3. Right, but why does he need to have supervised visitation?
He was on active duty and was not the custodial parent at the time of the incident; so why is he being treated as an "offender"?
