Newsweek: The Military: Punk-Rock Resistance
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7369512/site/newsweek/

Military recruiters are already scrambling to enlist enough soldiers to meet wartime demands. Now they're facing a new obstacle: punk rockers. With militaryfreezone.org, an antiwar band from Pittsburgh, Anti-Flag, has started a campaign against an obscure provision of the No Child Left Behind Act dictating that public-school districts supply high-school students' names, phone numbers and addresses to military recruiters.

<snip>

Justin Sane, Anti-Flag's spokesman, lead guitarist and lead vocalist, tells NEWSWEEK, "Schools should not be turned into military-recruitment centers."

3. Ya!
This is great! I'm not an Anti-Flag fan (but I did/still love Rage Against the Machine) but it is great to see new antiwar bands that are popular.

Edited on Mon Apr-04-05 12:31 AM by Califooyah Operative
-oolsey on this. I'm suprised to see msnbc covering it though.

check out their web page for info on that www.anti-flag.com

and

http://www.militaryfreezone.org.>

you'd be suprised how active the passionate and informed the punk rock community are, especially because of anti-flag, others, like fat mike of nofx and fatwrechords who ran a register green vote democrat campaign durign 2000 and after. A lot of the kids in the scene are just looking for a cause or a some guidance, and don't realize how close they are to the same thing we're doing as democrats. The dynamics is/has been changing though.

7. I just watched "The Filth and The Fury" tonight
And after watching Julien Temple's excellent documentary of the Sex Pistols, I'm pleased to hear that punk is still making the right kind of waves.

US out of Iraq and recruiters out of schools!

9. "obscure provision" of the NCLA
okay, this is spin.

It's not really an obscure provision, because a) it's actively being used by the military; and, b) it's been reported on several times as of late.

So what they're trying to do is make it seem like 'those whacky punk rockers' are being annoying by attacking this 'obscure' portion of Glorious Leader's empty legislation that effectively leaves many children behind. :grr:
