New Bush? Aides say he's just feeling good

Elisabeth Bumiller The New York Times
Monday, April 4, 2005

WASHINGTON George W. Bush has been acting like a man liberated from the American presidency.
.
At an event in Denver, he mused that sending out quarterly statements for the private investment accounts he wants to add to Social Security could encourage people to pay more attention to government, but then chuckled that investors might conclude from tepid returns that "maybe we ought to change presidents or something."
.
At a news conference Bush joked that he didn't have the time "to sit around and wander, lonely, in the Oval Office, kind of asking different portraits, 'How do you think my standing will be?"'
.
And at the end of an interview with a Belgian television correspondent, Bush blurted out to the young woman that she had "great eyes," glanced away slyly and then a little sheepishly, but for the most part seemed sorry that the session was over.

Nothing personal to you emad - the date is right there. I'm floored - it's bad enough we are fed this propaganda but to be served rehashed garbage is telling.

46. Exactly--WHY the rerun of news more like 4 weeks old?
To my mind, it shows how really DEVASTATING the news is these days for Bush. The "great eyes" bit (or "great ass" as some said they heard) was pushed out so robotically, you know it was an assignment--there was NO flirty interplay AT ALL. THAT is how widespread the "Bush is gay" rumours have gotten!

As to his cheeriness toward the staff, who who knows Bush believes that for a minute? As his numbers go down (and you know the ones he sees are much WORSE than they admit to us!) he is getting upset with everybody around him.

Finally--WHY does he risk his own base to go to a R Catholic mass in DC for the Pope? He is so DESPERATE to grab onto the Pope's popularity, abandoning the Schiavo mess as fast as he can. Russert's trial balloon on the "Today Show" today about Bush actually going to the Pope's funeral shows the desperation.

Soooo--what to do? Puff piece in the NYTimes to boost what is left.

8. My own theory on Bush is that he never really wanted to be president
or actually have the work that came with it. He was picked by a group of scoundrels, promised 40 weeks of vacation a year and then he could retire. He doesn't want to be Presidenting anymore, the job for him was always about the perks.

" Despite the beating he has taken on Social Security, other advisers say, Bush still presents a cheery face to the staff.
.
"People are not walking around with their heads hung on Social Security," said Joshua Bolten, the White House budget director. "When we have our Social Security meetings - and those are often very detailed, substantive meetings - he's consistently upbeat."

Everyone including Hitler sez junior is just a wonderful guy, 'eh?

23. Here's the worst part:
Bush actually thinks he's funny. I'm sure some PR person has coached the "bad working material" Guy. They probably told him to always start out his speeches with a joke. "Try to be funny", they urge Bush. "It makes you appear humble. Ordinary people will connect with you", they say.

Bush tries it. At his next speech, he makes a joke. People laugh. Bush looks out at them, and sees their mouths open and the decibel level rises. He feels good. "Man, I'm really something". "They're connecting with me".

Little does Bush know his audience is laughing at him, not with him. They think he's a scream because he stutters, merges old sayings into something completely new, confuses words, mangles grammar, and just comes out sounding like an idiot.

Which is exactly what he is.

Edited on Sun Apr-03-05 03:12 PM by Julius Civitatus
Excellent rebuttal to this embarrassing propaganda piece put out by Bumiller:

http://www.dailyhowler.com/dh032805.shtml

They call her article a "tongue bath" and Bumiller "geisha girl." Well deserved.

:applause:

Here's a choice quote from The Daily Howler on Bumiller's puff piece:

You can’t get dumber than Elisabeth Bumiller. Nor can you be a more faithful courtesan. By her own admission, the timid scribe was far too frightened to ask a question of Bush pre-Iraq (see THE DAILY HOWLER, 3/25/04). But she isn’t too scared to run her warm tongue up and down an emperor’s keister. Fawning, pandering, pimping and puffing, Bumiller continues to show the world the soul of our vacuous “press corps.”

63. I remember that Howler for this tidbit:
Bush could be “the first president since Eisenhower” to do this? Bumiller knows to omit the obvious fact— since Eisenhower, there have only been two other presidents who served a full second term! Yes: That “number” to which Bumiller deftly refers is two! And yes, to state what is patently obvious, that’s why she doesn’t provide it.

Uh, one, uh two. How many licks does it take to get to the center of Chimp's dumper?

41. Meanwhile, In Belgium
31 March 2005
BRUSSELS - Belgian interior minister Patrick Dewael has been embarrassed by a Belgian police training manual containing photos comparing US President George W Bush to a chimpanzee, it was reported on Thursday.
Dewael insisted he did not know that the pictures had been included in the manual, which is being used by police officers in Bruges.
<snip>

The newspaper printed copies of the photos in question.
They showed a series of Bush's facial expressions next to those of a chimpanzee making similar faces.
The idea behind the pictures was to make police officers aware of the importance of body language.
The revelation was doubly embarrassing for Dewael as he had signed a letter to Belgian police chiefs urging them to use the manual.
http://www.expatica.com/source/site_article.asp?subchannel_id=48&story_id=18609&name=Bush+chimp+photos+embarrass+Dewael

Is this a new George Bush?

White House officials insist not, and say that the frisky president that people are seeing in public is simply the one he has kept private for the last four years.
