Calif. Retail Gasoline Prices Rise to Record ($2.45 gal)

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Gasoline prices have jumped to a record in California and likely will rise more as the state's drivers increasingly take to the road as the summer vacation season approaches, a spokesman for AAA said on Saturday.

The statewide average for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline has risen by 50 cents per gallon since mid-January to $2.45 as of Friday, Sean Comey of the automobile association said.

"The principal market force that has been pushing up gasoline prices has been the cost of crude oil, which is 50 percent more expensive than at this time last year," said Comey. "Also, particularly in California, there is a very tight balance between supply and demand."

Gas is $2.52 a gallon where I live.

the Bushista Administration. Just helping out those who are its best friends.

Well, the US needs to lose its addiction to oil, anyway. Of course, doing it this way puts the pain on the citizenry -- much more than would rational energy planning.
