Exclusive: Halliburton Employee Says He Was Gang-Beaten By Co-Workers at B
Exclusive: Halliburton Employee Says He Was Gang-Beaten By Co-Workers at Baghdad Airport

The father of an employee of Halliburton subsidiary Kellog, Brown and Root in Iraq is alleging that his son was gang-beaten by a group of fellow employees at the Baghdad airport where he works as a security coordinator for KBR. Yesterday, the father of Ron Chavez-who is from right here in Houston, Texas-sent a letter to the US Justice Department. It reads:

"My son Ronald Lee Chavez an employee of Halliburton in Iraq was severely beaten by peer Halliburton employees. These employees are known in Iraq as the Leesville, LA "Red Neck Mafia".
Ronald was med-evaced to Camp Anaconda where he is in a US Military Hospital and remains there. According to my daughter in law Patti, Ronald is to be transferred to a military hospital in Germany because of Atria Fibrillation to his heart due to the severe beating. What I understand, Halliburton has advised Patti, that Ronald needs a Passport to get medical treatment at a Military Hospital in Germany.

While Ronald was in Albuquerque on R & R, he advised me that his Boss did not like him because Ronald is Hispanic; and that the "Red Neck Mafia" ran the operation for Halliburton at Baghdad Airport. Ronald further advised me that he had reported by Memorandum to higher authority within the Halliburton Chain of Command the vulnerabilities at Baghdad Airport regarding to terrorist attacks. Ronald further stated that higher authority was upset at his recommendations.

7. Make sense
Since our corporations ARE criminal gangs.

The Bush administration has been the biggest mob shakedown operation in history.

13. Oh, they're here too. Sometimes they hide in the Rotary Club, sometimes
the Chamber of Commerce. Maybe they're not as physically demonstrative, but they do cause harm.

4. This whole mess is rotten through and through.
Root, stem and branch, as they used to say. We have criminal politicians owned by criminal corporations, run by criminal gangs who employ criminals in any position that would be advantageous/profitable to the afore mentioned line of criminal gangsters. Is there nothing left of this country that is not tainted by the greasy grip of Bush crime syndicate? Nothing?

23. Yes, this is how horrible
our country has become.
I am wondering myself if there is not anything left tainted by the Bush Klan criminals. The real trouble is, with behavior like this they're making it okay for everyone to do it.

8. I've been to Leesville, LA. and can attest that it is a cesspool of hicks
You can't go a day without seeing at least three beat-to-shit pick up trucks with bumber stickers expressing some sort of pro-Dixie/xenophobic vitriol. Lots of trailer parks and poor white trash abound in Leesville with little-to-no "mixing" of races.

I wouldn't be surprised if this attack was a "hate crime" under federal statues. Of course, because this was done in Iraq the perpetrators are probably shielded from "bad acts" by the BFEE.

14. Halliburton employs all sorts, but machinists and blue-collar mostly
Edited on Wed Mar-30-05 12:44 PM by AngryWhiteLiberal
You may not necessarily be a hick if you are a Halliburton employee, but you probably STUPID, GREEDY, or DESPERATE. Given the economic conditions in Leesville, it's probably the latter option...

BTW - I lived in LA (Baton Rouge & Mamou) for about 6 years starting in the mid-1990s and traveled around the state quite a bit.

this is a smokescreen and i think their playing on everyones concept of dumb Southerners. Theres probably a lot more to this tale.

20. I'm from La too, never heard that term
but, there is a "dixie mafia"....I think they are using this term to mean a group of idiots from Leesville who run &/or straw that particular job. Like many poor, white-trash towns across America, Leesville has its share of ignorant hillbillys who would fight to protect that particular pay check...and, they've probably never seen that kinda money in their whole lives.

12. Democracy Now
Can be seen again this evening on Link TV at 5:00 pm central. This show was depressing, explains some of the corruption and lack of leadership in Iraq. I was against leaving that country unprotected since we forced ourselves on them. Well, no more, the Iraqis couldn't do a worse job then this administration.

21. Rush Transcript
Is now available at the Democracy Now site.

http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=05/03/30/1544247

Audio and video are also available there.

They also had PRATAP CHATTERJEE on for the same segment (He had been on for the previous segment) and he was giving a more general aspect to the story from what he is hearing. That is of corruption, of managers sitting at the poolside making millions while the workers are out there getting shot at. He also relates stories of intimidation re whistle blowing about corruption.

ment of "contractors" that are criminals. We all know that since Abu Ghraib opened many once closed closed eyes.

26. Will it end only when...
Will it end only when Bush and Rumie finally get their coveted mushroom cloud somewhere in the world - and the fundies get their Armageddon bought and paid for by the American taxpayers?

Yes! When will ordinary folks finally stop taking this ugly, despicable crap?

This is not America.

*sigh*
