Wolfowitz wins European backing
Paul Wolfowitz looks set to be confirmed as new head of the World Bank at a meeting in New York on Thursday, after tying up Europe's backing.

The US deputy defence secretary's nomination stirred controversy, given his key role in the Iraq war and his lack of development experience.

But after a meeting on Wednesday in Brussels, European leaders said they expected his nomination to succeed.

Europe is hoping to secure one of the two vacant vice-presidential posts.

5. This was covered on BBCAMERICA this morning.
The anchor kept asking the reporter on the scene whether the Europeans had been won over by Wolfowitz. He kept asking quite heartily, expecting to hear of new enthusiasm.

The reporter refused. He mentioned serious reservations by most of the leaders; the emotion he seemed to convey was resignation. No enthusiasm at all.

7. Cheney has been working the strings.
I'm quite sure that in the shadows he relayed a nasty threat to "old Europe".

We are global bullies and Wolfowitz is our latest "you can't do shit about this" swagger.

No way this motherfucker should be the head of the World Bank.

The best thing that could happen would be for him to die in a horrible plane crash....die slowly, that is. (and may Perle, Rove, and Cheney be on that plane, too)

Lying pieces of shit!

9. Good
They've taken the outrage out of the outrage.

What are we supposed to say? "Oh my God!! Wolfowitz!! Again!! Damn!!" All the while they keep getting more power. We have no say in it.

I say good for Wolfowitz. These guys have ambition. They want to control, kill, and make money. If they want to destroy the planet, and all who dwell on the planet, do it. They better get it done though. We were promised flying cars by the year 2000. If they want war all the time, they better make war all the time.

Just do what you promised. I don't want to see any diplomacy. I want to see bombs on TV. I want to see bombs in Iraq when they don't get the democracy our leaders want. I want Afghanistan to be an even bigger crap hole. I want a police state here in the shining city on the hill. I want a space war with China. Nuclear war with Russia. And a land war in old Europe. I want to be used as Rumsfeld's war toy.

These things were promised. Since I'm an American, what I want, I get.

18. its all about the money

the world bank loans and gives away billions of dollars. If anybody ever had any problems with what the World Bank did in underdeveloped countries they aint seen nothing yet.

I think Wolfie will make the corruption in Iraq look like squabbling over small change.

A lot of people at the Bank do try hard to work for the underdog but a lot of times they have been stymied. They aint seen nothing yet. It will be colonialism under a new name.

watch out for privatization of water.... people will be dying because they cant afford to pay for water.
