US Soldier Pleads Not Guilty For Killing Wounded Iraqi (drone videotaped)

In the surveillance video, military Humvees could be seen chasing a black sedan that crashed into a wall surrounding a house. The drone then zoomed in on what appeared to be a man lying on the ground beside the crashed car, waving one arm but otherwise motionless.

The outline of a soldier in a helmet and battle gear could then be seen aiming a weapon at the man, which was followed by a flash. In a subsequent image, the man appeared to twitch as though hit again. Maynulet's fellow officers said at the Article 32 hearing that he shot the man in an act of compassion to end his suffering.

<snip>

In an unrelated case Monday, a military court found a U.S. soldier guilty of refusing to perform his duty as a mechanic. Spec. Blake Lemoine, 23, of Moraville, La., serving with the 5-96th Maintenance Company of the 16th Combat Support Group, was sentenced to seven months in prison and ordered him discharged with bad conduct.

Lemoine said he had asked to leave the Army after returning from a yearlong tour in Iraq. He gave several reasons for his decision at a news conference last week that was sponsored by several anti-war groups. In particular, he argued that his duties as an ordained pagan minister were in conflict with his job in the Army.

3. Surely you remember the video of the chopper taking out the
Iraqis at quite a considerable distance, in the middle of the night, with 30mm depleted uranium shells.... quite a sight... just like a video game.

>>I originally received the Apache gunship video from a friend, but it has been posted publicly by Ernie's House of Whoopass. UPDATE: Before posting this story I did a Google News search to try to find any news articles mentioning the video. While that search didn't find anything, it turns out that an ABCNews story from January 9 does carry the video.

At no point in the video can we see any weapons in the hands of the Iraqis. They walk around a bit, get out of a truck, and walk over to some kind of structure. It's possible that they're planting an explosive device of some kind, but I can't make one out in the video. With that said, however, I'm not used to viewing thermal video and I don't know how weapons or IEDs would appear in infrared.

At one point the Apache has killed all but one member of the Iraqi group. The gun crew then looks around to see if there's any more movement. There's one man lying down next to the truck. The crew fires the 30mm cannon, wounding him. The video shows the man writhing around on the ground, clearly in serious pain. At this point they look for more movement. The conversation that follows is telling.

Gunner: Want me to take the other truck out? Commander: Roger . Wait for movement by the truck. Gunner: Movement right there. Commander: Roger. He's wounded. Hit him! Gunner: Alright. Hitting the truck. Commander: Hit the truck. Hit the truck and him. Go forward of it and hit him. Gunner: Roger.<<

Only because the video you have seen is not the full video. Most sites carrying this video want to make the point that we killed these poor Iraqi farmers who were only planting crops. They "convieniently" fail to post the full length video which I was able to find in seconds, even this far after the fact.

This was not a random event where the apache saw some farmers and decided to target practice. They had been following the smaller truck because he was suspected of having arms in the truck.

Try the full length movie and tell me that these men acted innocent.

5. I've seen the full length... I didn't know this was clipped.... and
I saw what they threw down in a nervous haste... and yes, I believe they were probably rocket propelled grenades... but I don't know if I would vaporize them from probably a mile away... especially the one who was down. I don't this incident followed any of our rules of engagement. I certainly hope it didn't.
