Colorado Supreme Court has reversed the felony murder conviction of Lisl A

DENVER - On Monday, the Colorado Supreme Court reversed the felony murder conviction of Lisl Auman, who was found guilty even though she was in custody when a companion shot and killed a police officer.

The high court ruled that improper jury instructions may have deprived Auman of her right to a full and fair jury trial on a second-degree burglary charge, reversing her conviction for felony murder -- which was based on the burglary conviction.

The court also ordered a new trial.

The case attracted national attention because Auman was sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole. Celebrities including Sean Penn, Johnny Depp, Benecio Del Toro and the late Hunter S.-Thompson had come out in support of Auman. Colorado's felony murder law allows a person to be convicted even if an accomplice kills someone during the commission of a crime.

<snip>

Maybe this is more a Colorado story, but it has gotten some national attention too.

1. nominated for Greatest
and I am thrilled and relieved to hear this. HST was an active advocate for Auman, and I feel that at least he has been vindicated on this point.

6. Maybe a new trial can correct a travesty of justice.
The myriad conflicts in how we convict and execute people excede the barbaric, the idiotic. It is way passed time someone or something held us accountable for this.
