RED LAKE, Minnesota (CNN) -- A tribal leader in an American Indian community where a shooting rampage left 10 dead said Wednesday he was opposed to public funerals like "another Columbine," urging that families of schoolchildren and other victims be allowed to mourn in private.

Floyd Jourdain Jr. said his tribe will comply with an FBI request to aid the investigation by delaying funerals. Tradition requires a tribal funeral be held two days after a death.

All 10 of the dead -- including the suspected teen gunman -- were undergoing autopsies after a shooting spree Monday at Red Lake High School on a reservation about 240 miles north of Minneapolis-St. Paul.

It was the nation's worst school shooting since two students killed 12 classmates, a teacher and themselves at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, in April 1999. (Full story)

1. They can be made to stay away...
cuz apparently there are a lot stricter rules that the media is being made to play by since it is a reservation...there was some article here on DU that said since the reservations are seen as
"dependent sovereign nation", they get to make up their own rules <i.e trespassing, etc...> and they have alreayd taken 2 journalists into custody for violating the trespassing laws.

On a related note, looks like another school shooting may be been avoided:

Suspensions have been given to the ninth-grader who brought an unloaded handgun to Riverview Junior-Senior High school in Oakmont as well as two other students accused of bullying him.

Riverview School District Superintendent Charles Erdeljac would not disclose the length of the suspensions yesterday but said they could change based on the results of an ongoing investigation.

Erdeljac commended the students who reported Monday's gun incident to the administration and the principals and police for their quick response in securing the weapon.
