Texarkana faces impact of strike at Cooper Tire
Wednesday, March 23, 2005 8:39 AM CST

By AARON BRAND
Texarkana Gazette

Texarkana's business leaders and government officials are concerned about the impact of a prolonged union strike at Cooper Tire and fear it may take a toll on the local economy. <snip>

The strike reached its 10th day Tuesday with pickets continuing, production lines quiet and no sign of direct talks between the company and United Steelworkers of American Local 752L.

On Tuesday, further review of a restraining order or injunction sought by Cooper Tire against the local union was scheduled to be heard in the Miller County Circuit Court. That hearing was postponed and no exact date for the rescheduled hearing has been set, according to the office of Circuit Judge Jim Hudson.

Over the past weekend, a union official said a federal mediator will enter the dispute and begin talking with both Cooper and union representatives tomorrow. <snip>

1. No wonder I'd never heard of this plant
It's on the Arkansas side.

2. That's sad
How many factories does Cooper Tire have? How many are striking in solidarity with the Texarkana plant?

That's something I just don't understand about the union movement in this country ...
