Thompson's Will Calls for 'Gonzo Trust'
Thompson's Will Calls for 'Gonzo Trust'
------------------------------------
Tuesday, March 22, 2005 7:05 PM CST
------------------------------------

ASPEN, Colo. - In a nod to the first-person form of journalism he popularized, Hunter S. Thompson's will calls for all his property to flow into "The Gonzo Trust" to be managed by three people the writer knew for years.

The will, dated June 27, 2003, was filed in state court Feb. 23, three days after the 67-year-old writer took his own life at his home in Woody Creek, near Aspen. It was made public Monday.

(snip)

Anita Thompson said she did not know any details of the will. She has said she was moving forward with plans launched before her husband's death for the Hunter S. Thompson Foundation, dedicated to helping people in the prison system "who don't belong there."

1. That's great. They should hook up with that professor
at Chicago, I think, who holds a class that takes on cases like that. They've exonerated a couple of inmates, I think.

3. One of the trustees, Douglas Brinkley, wrote a great account of HST
in Rolling Stone. As an HST fan, I highly advise you all to purchase a copy right away.

5. Oh wow.
The same Douglas Brinkley who wrote Tour of Duty (the Kerry bio) and edited Windblown World (the Kerouac journal that came out last year)?

His name's been coming up a lot lately.
