Schiavo: 'Come down, President Bush' (Calls Delay A "Slithering Snake")
http://www.sptimes.com/2005/03/20/Tampabay/Schiavo___Come_down__.shtml

Hell, yeah! George if you sign this legislation why don't you move Teri Schiavo into the Blue Room and you and Laura can feed her yourselves.

<snip>

By WILLIAM R. LEVESQUE, Times Staff Writer
Published March 20, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PINELLAS PARK - Angered by the latest political developments in Washington, Michael Schiavo said Saturday that it isn't just the Florida governor who should visit his wife to learn about the case.

Jeb Bush's brother, President Bush, should visit Terri Schiavo, too, he said.

"Come down, President Bush," Schiavo said in a telephone interview. "Come talk to me. Meet my wife. Talk to my wife and see if you get an answer. Ask her to lift her arm to shake your hand. She won't do it."

She won't, Schiavo said, because she can't.

He made a similar offer to the governor last week, saying lawmakers interferring in his wife's life know nothing about the case. So far, Gov. Bush hasn't responded to the offer.

President Bush has indicated he will sign any federal legislation to keep Terri Schiavo alive.

Weary after an emotional visit with his wife, Schiavo said he is astonished that politicians want to interfere in such a private matter.

"Instead of worrying about my wife, who was granted her wishes by the state courts the past seven years, they should worry about the pedophiles killing young girls," Schiavo said, referring to a local case. "Why doesn't Congress worry about people not having health insurance? Or the budget? Let's talk about all the children who don't have homes."

He said U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, who is leading a charge to extend Terri Schiavo's life, is a "little slithering snake" pandering for votes.

1. Michael Schiavo seems to know what he is talking about.
Now if his wife were a criminal, a soldier or a poor black person, b*sh wouldn't have lifted a finger to stop her death.

4. I just posted in another thread that
Schiavo should do exactly this. The chimp, Delay, and the rest of the repukes ought to be under a court order to spend an hour with Mrs. Schiavo before uttering another word about her situation. I predict they'd all slither quietly out of there without comment if confronted by the reality of her "life." Bunch of chickenshit bastards.

(That's just the alter-ego of wanna-be Supreme Court Justice speaking. :o )

I doubt I'd be allowed entry to see Terri even though she's less than an hour away from my driveway.

Just felt a twinge at calling her "she." After more than 13 years on a feeding tube, does her brain even know who she is?

Anyone wishing to give Terri a "life sentence" should try to look into her eyes.

65. I'm not willing to call anyone associated with this 'Good'
but I am willing to say that after 20 judges have looked into this case, that I feel comfortable that Terri truly is in a persistent vegetative state who has no quality of life.

The motives of all interested parties may be suspect, but at the end of the day, Terri Schiavo is currently in a hell from which she should be liberated.

About him. I suppose the RW will put on the full-court press demonization and lying about him now. He probably figures they can't do any worse than they have done already though.

These politicians that claim they know what's best, should have to spend a few weeks taking care of this woman personally. They would soon discover that she will never be voting for them.

15. Is it true that video tape of Terri was manipulated so it look like
she could respond to her parents and others? Sorry, haven't followed the case that closely till now.

This makes as much sense as Phil Kline looking into abortions of young teens in case there was any incest, child rape laws violated, etc. in Kansas. Course why Kline isn't looking into the live births of these minor girls to see if they were the victims of incest, child rape and the such makes perfect sense what his agenda is -- abortion only. Disgusting.

17. Several courts have ruled, and a court appointed "friend" was present.
During lengthy attempts to solicit actual communication from Ms. Schiavo. They agreed that she wasn't actually responding, rather it was the random responses of someone in the permanently vegetative state. Edit down 6 or 7 hours of tape into a few minutes and you can splice these random coincidences into the appearance of communication.

This technique is used on TV commercials, to make animals appear to understand complex human communication as well (dog food commercials, for example). I just mention this to show that we have all witnessed this video technique many times, and shouldn't be surprised by its effectiveness.

19. Yes, it's true.
There was a court order expressly prohibiting the parents from filming or videotaping their daughter, but the Schindlers happily disregarded that order, and illegally taped her for several hours.

Then, the tape was edited down to a few minutes, skillfully put together to make it look like Mrs. Schiavo was relating and reacting to her parents and a balloon.

That balloon had more awareness and was able to do more than Mrs. Schiavo.

(Welcome to DU, by the way, teakee!)

28. Thank you.
Most husbands would not have fought this long and this hard if this wasn't Terri's wishes. They couldn't have been married that long before her accident. Videos shouldn't be manipulated, Terri's parents are in emotional pain but this is wrong.

Bush and Co. should be concerned about the millions of people who don't have health ins. and the ones who probably did die because of it.

Bush should concern himself with his troops' injuries, I'm sure there are many that are allowed to fall between the cracks. Too bad he doesn't show this much concern for the veterans and innocent Iraqi victims.

11. If I were Schiavo, I would bolt the door and smother her.
Sure, I would get the death penalty (irony here) for the action, but I would be able to live with the peace of mind knowing that I sacrificed my life to meet the wishes of my vegetative wife...hmm, I've heard of that type of self-sacrifice somewhere before. But, this point would be lost on the christofascist assholes surrounding this case.

Imagine if you were in Michael Schiavo's shoes, and GW or Tom Delay were telling you that your wife's wishes were not going to be met and that she must suffer further.

America...a land I used to love. Now, I don't recognize it...unless of course, I look up the history of Germany circa 1936.

48. I'm sure it's happened before
>I would be able to live with the peace of mind knowing that I sacrificed my life to meet the wishes of my vegetative wife...<

I used to work with a woman who had an agreement with her husband. Since they're still married, I'm sure it's still in force. They both work in the health care field. If one became incapacitated and was hooked up to life support with no hope of recovery, the husband or wife would be visiting the spouse's hospital room with a syringe full of air.

I am not advocating the above action. It's their business. At the same time, this has sure stimulated some discussion at our house over the past week re: completing a living will and medical power of attorney sooner than later.

if the * and his pals are still in power that living wills will not be enforced. At this point, unless one has "DNR" tattooed on one's chest, a non-resuscitate order can be rescinded as well; we just went through it with my MIL three months ago.

DH and I live in one of the most liberal states in the country. If I am afraid of this trend, I worry for those in red states who may see their right to not spend years and years hooked up to a machine taken away as well.

I feel sorry for Michael Schiavo. I sometimes think that this whole situation could have been remedied by family counseling. At this point, he is operating on principles and rage and the desire to honor his wife's wishes.

But how many of us could have held on so long?

The best thing for him, personally, would have been to move on and let her family take over Terri's care, lock stock and barrel. They seem willing to care for her at home - tube feedings and diaper changes and everything. Michael, I agree with you and sympathize with you. But there comes a time when the battle only hurts you. There comes a time when it's best just to give up.

49. He's right
"Instead of worrying about my wife, who was granted her wishes by the state courts the past seven years, they should worry about the pedophiles killing young girls," Schiavo said, referring to a local case. "Why doesn't Congress worry about people not having health insurance? Or the budget? Let's talk about all the children who don't have homes."

:argh:

54. Slithering snake..
I love it! Delay can't even measure up to a snake though. Only God would know of a creature that is more vile. Wasn't Delay an exterminator? Good! He will come back as a roach or even better, a queen termite!

56. I like this Schiavo guy!
DeLay, Bush, and the rest of the Republican scumbags are trying to make a political matter, for their own benefit, over this very personal affair. The past 15 or so years of Terri's life have been heartbreaking for Mr. Schiavo, and no man should have to deal with what he has dealt with.

63. anyone know how we can send support to him.. let him know..
that millions of us are on behind him, and we are outraged at the bushies using his misfortune for their political purposes. I love that he turned and challenged them to come visit.. I hope he goes all over TV and challenges bush to go see his wife. Call him out.. make them address the facts... show the lies... 1 good SOLID lie, exposed for all Americans to see. thats what I dream of.... I hear ppl calling radio shows thinking she has some sort of awareness left, or could "improve". I wonder, have Americans always had such trouble agreeing on the facts (not opinions, thats a different story) or is this a recent event based on the corporatization and privatization of the media. (juxtaposed with bush propaganda) The point is all of us that can tell fact from fiction need to support each other and push for facts to prevail... after all.. the Earth really is round!
