Efforts on Iran likely ineffective
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2002205253_iran12.html

WASHINGTON — The turnabout by the United States in endorsing European economic incentives to Iran in return for dropping its nuclear-enrichment program adds a carrot to the U.S. stick.

But neither the carrot nor the stick — the threat of United Nations economic sanctions — is likely to be effective, Iran experts say. snip

But yesterday, the Bush administration agreed to let the Europeans — without direct U.S. participation — use what a senior administration official called the "chits" currently blocked by the United States: WTO application as well as letting European firms sell spare parts for Iran's aging U.S.-made Boeing passenger jets.

In return, U.S. officials said, the British, French and Germans have agreed that if the Iranians do not agree to permanently stop nuclear enrichment, which produces the fuel necessary for a nuclear bomb, they will take the matter to the U.N. Security Council for possible worldwide sanctions. snip

The "stick" is also problematic. Russia and China, which each have a veto on the U.N. Security Council, have very close and growing economic ties to Iran. China and Iran just announced a deal to develop Iranian gas fields.

1. Do none of these experts and officals ever have a name? This is
what distinguishes truth from propaganda. The less names, the more propaganda and the less truth.

8. Aw come on, they are the "Highly Respected" experts and officials
I agree with your post. As here in DU, if you don't tell us who said it, it's questionable. Too bad many people don't get this.

3. Russia and China...
Not Only Have A Vote In The UN But Also As Many Countries Have Had Not Always The Most 'Fruitful' Of Dealings With The US..I Wish People Here Could Move Beyond What US Govn't Sources Say And Expect! We Need To Realize That We Aren't The Only Concern On The Globe Or In The Universe. If We Ever Are Able To Address Real Issues We Might First Go Back To That Same Old Question: 'Which Came First, The Chicken Or The Egg'? Then We Might Re-Consider Whose And Which Interests Should Come First And Why.

4. Besides, I think the war rhetoric has calmed down against Iran
because Halliburton has recently cut some deals with the leadership. Any investigative journalists care to follow up? Anyone? Anyone? Why would the tone be so much more civilized toward Iran seemingly overnight IF there was not something sneaky involved?

6. It's all a deke, just like going through the UN with the Iraq War
Then all of a sudden, Bush will declare evidence they are making the bomb and we strike in June, and reinstate the draft, as it will take 600,000 troops to take over that big mother of a country.

Don't forget our leader is the AYATOLLAH OF LET'S ROLLA!

5. Hi, blogbear
Your posts would be easier to read by far if you didn't capitalize every single word. I can guarantee you that I won't get past even one more line in any paragraph in a post of yours capitalized like that.

Other than that , I agree with your remarks. Welcome to DU!!
