HAMILTON, N.J. -- The post office here is set to reopen Monday, 3 1/2 years after handling anthrax-laced letters sent to Tom Brokaw, two U.S. senators and the offices of the New York Post in attacks that further heightened the nation's anxiety in the weeks after 9/11.
On Friday, workers were putting finishing touches on the completely refurbished low-slung building, sprucing up the parking lot for a ceremony Sunday and preparing to shutter the temporary spaces where they have worked since the building was closed Oct. 18, 2001.

Tests have not detected any remaining spores since the building was fumigated early last year with chlorine dioxide gas. The center was stripped to its bare walls and all furniture and mail-sorting equipment was replaced in a renovation that cost an estimated $80 million to $100 million.
About 10 of Hamilton's roughly 500 postal workers, however, have said they will not work in the old building, according to the president of their union. Those workers can be moved to other postal centers.
The four workers who were infected there have not returned to work and are not expected to return to the old building.
