Bush names choice for solicitor general
WASHINGTON -- President Bush on Friday chose Paul D. Clement as solicitor general, the job Clement has held for the past eight months on an acting basis.
...
When Olson returned to private practice last summer, Clement was named acting solicitor general.

Clement drew criticism when he assured justices during oral arguments last term that the administration could be trusted with broad authority to detain suspected terrorists without giving them an opportunity to be heard in court.

When Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg pointedly asked what check there would be against torture of detainees, Clement said a U.S. president wouldn't do that.

But "what's constraining? That's the point," Ginsburg replied. In the following weeks, the Bush administration was forced to defend, and eventually repudiate, an internal Justice Department memo arguing that torture might be justified in the fight against al-Qaida.

to be appointed, every one of them willing to bend or break the law for the Bushies.... and there are more waiting in the wings if one falls.
