Student who lied about rape is charged
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- A woman who told police she was raped and beaten in a restroom at Assembly Hall but later said she made up the story has been charged with false informing, authorities said.

IU student Mary E. Bray, 19, reported the assault to staff members at Bloomington Hospital, where she was taken after IU police cited her for illegal possession of alcohol during an IU-Purdue basketball game on Feb. 22.

Authorities on Tuesday included a charge of misdemeanor false informing, court documents said. A police investigation into the reported rape revealed a "time line which does not offer the opportunity for this crime to have occurred," court documents said.

IU police had said they believe the woman made up the story because she was drunk.

Though I edit to add: I hope laws start being enforced against leaders who lie. It's not enough to only force the little people to tell the truth.

3. Her defense will be that she couldn't have formed the intent to lie...
...while she was drunk.

For obvious reasons, you're not allowed this defense with drunk driving.

But I think it's sort of obvious why a drunk person shouldn't be convicted for saying crazy things while they're drunk.

Of course, if she wasn't THAT drunk and was clearly trying to concoct some lie to get off from the other charge, that's a different matter.

But if she was loaded, and out of it...well...

4. Bullshit, who has a rape accusation come to mind because they
were caught vomitting on themselves and possessing alcohol underage? Nobody, no matter how drunk, suddenly thinks they are raped, especially when the story didn't mention any sexual activity at all.

5. Glad to see this
false charges make the real charges so much harder for people to believe, especially if some think that the perp is "upstanding" and "would never do such a thing"... gives them more to point to as examples of "how frequently" charges are false.
