US report acknowledges peak-oil threat
US report acknowledges peak-oil threat
By Adam Porter in Perpignan, France

Wednesday 09 March 2005, 18:23 Makka Time, 15:23 GMT

Some say global oil production has passed its peak point

It has long been denied that the US government bases any policy around the idea that global oil production may be in terminal decline.

But a new US government-sponsored report, obtained by Aljazeera.net, does exactly that.

Authored by Robert L. Hirsch, Roger Bezdek and Robert Wendling and entitled the Peaking of World Oil production: Impacts, Mitigation, & Risk Management, the report is an assessment requested by the US Department of Energy (DoE), National Energy Technology Laboratory.

It was prepared by Hirsch, who is a senior energy programme adviser at the private scientific and military company, Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC).

4. And As We Now Can See The Rest Of The World Is Paying Attention
Bush does not have enough troops to attack every oil producing nation.

But maybe he can convince his fundamentalist Christian supporters to volunteer for a new crusade - free of charge of course.

On second thought, best not give he and Rove any ideas.

5. You can take that to the bank.
I've read that we would be passing the Peak Oil high point in 2005, and then start a rapid decline from then on.

Of course, it won't be a linear downturn, because as our Life Blood dries up, there will be forced conservation around the world. Let's face it: Europe is decades ahead of this. They've had lots of practice in conserving the Black Stuff, so they will have an easier time to adjust.

The US, on the other hand.......
