China warns US, Japan on Taiwan
http://www.isn.ethz.ch/news/sw/details.cfm?id=10889

ISN SECURITY WATCH (07/03/05) - China has warned the US and Japan that their security alliance should be strictly bilateral and not include Taiwan, which Beijing considers an inalienable part of the mainland.

Chinese officials said any move by the US and Japan to include Taiwan in the alliance would “definitely arouse uneasiness” in Asia and “complicate the regional security situation”.

“The Taiwan question is China's internal affair and should by no means be deliberated in the framework of the security alliance between the United States and Japan,” Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing told a press conference on Sunday, adding that “any move to include Taiwan directly or indirectly in the scope of US-Japan security co-operation constitutes an encroachment on China's sovereignty and an interference in China's internal affairs.”

Li said the Taiwan question was the most sensitive issue in Sino-US relations and urged Washington to strictly abide by the three joint communiqués between the two governments. In those the statements, the US acknowledged that there was only one China and that Taiwan was a part of China.

1. What kind of threat is "would definitely arouse uneasiness"?
Tell 'em you'll dump dollars, boys, if you want to see their corporate masters bring 'em to heel!

3. Our old government no doubt knew that translation.
The new one thinks they're the only one with a weapon.

4. Notice the tone of voice with these guys?
You can almost hear it as you read the statement.

We tell you. You don't tell us. We threaten. We warn. You better pay attention, Washington.

Notice how much more ominous this statement is, compared to that little buck-toothed "diplomat" Condaloser Rice a while back. She jumped into hard-core brinkmanship right away (this was the fracas with Iran), and threatened with retaliation, "Or else".

She just seemed like such an amateur. You don't pull out the heavy artillery right away like she did.

This, on the other hand......

5. Taiwan is a well-functioning democracy. China wants to invade and occupy

Taiwan like they did Tibet, but Taiwan will fight back and Taiwan has the backing of nations with militaries. I think China needs to give up on their expansionist fantasies.

6. Oooh .... "expansionist."
I'm sure somebody will consider that flamebait.

I agree with you. Taiwan is China's internal affair just like Kosovo was Serbia's internal affair and Lithuania was the USSR's internal affair.

7. Here's the thing about Taiwan
China ain't bout to attack Taiwan any sooner than they plan to attack Russia. It ain't happening. What they are basically saying is that Taiwan is part of our land and we will protect it. Of course this can also mean they will try to move into Taiwan and control as much of it as they can with military forces. I wonder how Japan is going to effect this with their condemnation of Bush?
