BAGHDAD (AFP) - Iraq (news - web sites)'s military commander said that about 10,000 insurgents were now in detention in the country and predicted that Iraqi forces would be able to take control of security in six months.

"We have 10,000 of them in detention," joint chief of staff General Babakir Zebari told AFP on Sunday without providing details.

According to US military figures, as of early January more than 7,000 detainees were being held in US-run prisons in Iraq including the notorious Abu Ghraib facility in Baghdad and Camp Bucca in the south.

But this number rose as security was stepped up in the runup to the January 30 elections with the arrest of hundreds of suspects throughout the country.

3. Gee, the U.S. estimated at the beginning of...
...the occupation following the war that there were 6,000 TOTAL insurgents. They now estimate donly 10-12,000 total. And Iraq has 10,000 detained?

Hmmmm...looks like our job is about done, then! Time to come home! Heheheheh.

9. If they build enough prisons maybe they can lock up every single Iraqi?
That might be the idea? Then they will just start calling them reservations.

10. I guess the handful of dead-enders multiplied in captivity
Now that they have them all behind bars, I'm guessing things will be smooth in Iraq now?
