Bush: Stopping Bin Laden U.S. Attack Great Challenge
snip>
"Recently we learned that Osama bin Laden has urged the terrorist Zarqawi to form a group to conduct attacks outside Iraq, including here in the United States," Bush said at a public ceremony swearing in of Michael Chertoff as the new head of the U.S. Homeland Security Department.

"Bin Laden's message is a telling reminder that al Qaeda still hopes to attack us on our own soil. Stopping him is the greatest challenge of our day," he added.

Bush said that as the United States shifted its defenses to counter the threat from al Qaeda, "the terrorists will adapt their tactics in response."

"We're on a constant hunt for bin Laden. We're keeping the pressure on him, keeping him in hiding," he said.

28. I expect 35 miles is safe enough. Actually, I expect Tulsa is safe
enough other than the occasional fundy mass murderer and
rapist running loose in the Midwest.

I used to spend a lot of time down around Lawton, but
it has been a while now. Nice country. Nice People.

21. Was that before or after he chartered them planes to take..........
the half of the Laden clan that were still living in the US back to Saudi Arabia while the rest Air flight was grounded?

Yea, we can't find him, but we can immediately broadcast he is the one responsible, misidentify eight or ten who MIGHT have been on them flights after it happens. Yet they never could figure he might do it (if he was the main wheel in it, that is) but know right after he supposedly masterminded it from some cave on the other side of the world.

I don't believe liars, but especially a * liars.

Yea, bunny-pants, we AWOLs.........we scared, maybe they find out

Get him, smoke him out, catch him, find him, now just stop him. Mr.bush doesn't give Osama much thought because he doesn't have much thought. Dang me again but Mr.bush is just saying it how it is and most people don't understand that you need to simply take him at his deceiving word.

24. this stinks
"Keeping him in hiding"--yeah, but in spite of that wonderful Bush cowboy tactic of keeping him in hiding, and not to mention your bombastic bragging of gettin em dead or alive, he manages to trump you. You must like it that way--keeps the dread and fear in your citizens, who you seem to view as your enemy and keeps you looking like a tough cowboy-- coward.

This is nothing more than propaganda and my worst fear is that he will LIHOP or even MIHOP. Although there is no more elections for him forthcoming, saving face might be a motivation.

Anyhow, this whole Bin Laden thing should turn people against Bush for letting him get away, but that, incredibly, has not happened. He's still looking and searching and lordy lordy, he has kept him in hiding.

Almost every night at sleeptime I fantasize that some Ellsberg type has suffered acute pangs of conscience and comes forth with hard evidence to prove how this country has been lied to repeatedly by Bush, Cheney and so forth down the line.

Now that Bush doesn't have to tout his great ability to protect us in order to get reelected, he can say what a difficult problem this is so if/when the shit hits the fan, he can say "Hey I told you this was hard work. No CIA agents searching for Osama in Pakistan -- Daily Times, Pakistan

No CIA agents searching for Osama in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has not allowed CIA agents to launch operation on its soil to track down Osma Bin Laden, Al Qaeda chief, said Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, information minister. “We have not allowed any foreigners to enter into the country for searching the Al Qaeda leader. The US media reports are baseless,” Sheikh Rashid told a private television channel. He said the US media and organisations should know that Pakistan has given a free hand to its media and such things cannot be hidden from it. The minister said it is totally wrong to term the US report true and based on facts. He said the Foreign Office would contact the US through diplomatic channel in this regard.

THANK YOU CAPTAIN OBVIOUS!

But seriously, why do we keep bringing this up. We've done nothing to change fundamentalists views on us, and we haven't killed them all, so of course they're still trying to attack us.

Still, nice of him to mention Bin Laden for once. I thought he wasn't important anymore.

(Technically, you can't change Bin Laden's or his deputies views on the U.S. I believe, and I actually don't think he matters that much, but Bush's statement does amuse me.)

45. Bin Laden draws rare mention from Bush
http://www.suntimes.com/output/terror/cst-nws-bin04.html

WASHINGTON -- President Bush made rare mention of Osama bin Laden on Thursday, calling efforts to block the terrorist leader's hope of attacking America again ''the greatest challenge of our day.''

Bush insisted the so-far unsuccessful hunt for the al-Qaida founder is ''keeping the pressure on.''

The White House has sought to play down the significance of bin Laden to the global anti-terror battle, since the trail has gone cold on him more than three years after the Sept. 11 attacks. As a result, Bush hardly ever utters the name of the man he once declared wanted ''dead or alive'' and repeatedly promised would be caught.

But bin Laden made headlines again this week, as intelligence officials said he has enlisted the help of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the top al-Qaida figure in Iraq, to plan new attacks inside the United States.

51. So what's worse for the Chimperor...
Catching Osama or not catching him? After all that strutting and bragging about getting him dead or alive, it's a bit embarrassing for WeeCowboy that OBL is still out there. On the other hand, he really needs the big terr'ist boogeyman to keep us all scared and docile. And that makes me wonder whether OBL is being kept under house arrest by the CIA, holed up in a cheap motel in suburban D.C., eating pizza and watching soaps on the teevee, until such time as it is politically expedient to produce him.
