Taft Called Nation's Worst Governor
Taft Called Nation's Worst Governor
Governors Ranked On Fiscal Performance

http://www.newsnet5.com/politics/4245347/detail.html

POSTED: 7:45 am EST March 2, 2005

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio's Bob Taft is ranked last among the nation's governors for fiscal policies.

Three other governors, all Democrats, also received failing marks on a Washington-based think tank's fiscal report card, but the Republican Taft's overall score was the worst.

The libertarian Cato Institute ranked the governors on 15 measures of fiscal performance.

It criticized Taft for proposing large spending increases while the state faced ballooning budget deficits. It also blamed Taft for delaying Ohio's economic rebound by raising taxes.
"About the only good news to report is that Bob Taft is term-limited and cannot run for office again," said the institute's Fiscal Policy Report Card on America's Governors: 2004.

22. Yeah - nobody knows his idea of fiscal policy
except that he has embraced a number of points that he originally used to oust Davis . . .

5. Headline should read: GOP group hates Democrats...or
GOP hit men find fault with Democratic governors.

or

GOP hate group finds fault with Democrats.

instead they report the results of the Cato Institute as though it were a legitimate "think tank."

One more example of that evil liberal media :eyes:

21. it's a PR firm
the right learned a long time ago the benefit of selling your message through tried and true public relations methods. They just renamed all of their PR flacks as "senior fellows" and their PR firms as "Institutes" or "Foundations" or "Think Tanks". Their "research" is limited to researching which lie will be best received. Cato has about as much in common with the RAND corp (the original think tank)as a Cialis ad does with NEMJ.

13. I enjoyed hearing Gov. Skippy gulp yesterday - did you?
As he backed down on First Steps, you could hear his Adam's apple ratchet from Potosi to Maryville, and from Hannibal to Kansas City.

Let's hope it's not the last time he gets to climb down, covered in dung and shame!

23. Schwarzenegger RULES...
...the turdpile. What a dick. California's a blue state, but our right wing is more insidious than most. They paint him as a closet liberal, but he's really just a dullard in over his head. Now that Kevin Shelley's been crucified, we're getting a guy for Secretary of State who just loves Diebold (who doesn't?), and meanwhile, the great State of California just continues to decay. At least we can claim BARBARA BOXER, THE BRAVEST, MOST SINCERE AMERICAN TO STAND UP AGAINST TYRANNY SINCE I just don't know. That woman just gets me overwhelmed with deep emotion. I'd kill for her, I think. What a great human being.

31. Worse than Pataki?
Come on, now. Albany is the most dysfunctional state capital out of 50 by a WIDE margin, and it's mainly due to the non-leadership coming from the Statehouse. The budget has been late every year since 1984, Pataki promised to do something about it in 1994 when he got elected governor, but didn't do shit other than give an annual public tongue-lashing to Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver (D-Manhattan) while kissing Joe Bruno's (R-someplace Upstate) ample ass. As a result, bipartisanship simply does not exist in Albany, period.

32. Colorado's Bill Owens Is Pretty Sucky, Too
A Republican friend of Dubya who can't even govern his personal life - he's Catholic and separated from his wife, with rumors swirling around that he had an affair with his kids' nanny and got her pregnant.

We had surplusses in Colorado every year under Democrat Roy Romer that triggered tax refunds under the TABOR provision of our State Constitution. Now they've run deficits every year since Owens took office, and the Republican-led Legislature keep cutting services and capital projects like road and bridge construction. No wonder we Dems took back the State Legislature last November. And next year, we take back the Governor's Mansion.
