Thousands of Guatemalans protest against ratification of FTA with US

Thousands of public-school teachers, peasants, university students and workers rallied in Guatemala City Tuesday against the imminent approval of a free trade agreement (FTA) with the United States.

According to reports from the Guatemalan capital, the Trade Union and Popular Action Unity (UASP) said that at least 25,000 people joined the protest at the Constitution Square, in front of the National Palace of Culture, and in the vicinity of the Congress.

The demonstrators also blocked three main routes of access into the Guatemalan capital. No incidents have been reported yet.

We could all learn from our South American brothers and sisters, they have the right idea.

Why aren't we out in force against this government? Every other country is out in force against us but us? Does anyone find that disturbing but me????? Are we going to have to let ourselves become as oppressed as third world countries have become because of U.S. economic rape? Will everyone wake the fuck up then? Or will we all keep expecting some corrupt politician to save us?
