Russia working on 'defense-proof' nuclear missiles: minister
http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/afp_world/view/135160/1/.html

MOSCOW : Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said Tuesday that Moscow was creating a nuclear weapon capable of thwarting any defense system in the world, Interfax news agency reported.

"There is not now and will not be any defense from such missiles," the news agency quoted Ivanov as saying. snip

Russia has said on repeated occasions that it was developing missiles capable of penetrating the missile defense shield being developed by the United States, whose construction Moscow had furiously opposed.

Analysts have suggested that Russia is developing a missile which can "zigzag" while in flight and thereby dodge anti-missile defenses.

1. So duck & cover will no longer work? Dam! and I have been practising
my 'duck & cover' techniques for years.

Still very glad CANADA has not joined Missile Defense!

3. Which is why a proximity fuze style missile defense of a horizon

is what is needed accompanied by a space-based launch detection system. If those two elements ever get paired-up, presto.

BTW, this would then be the perfect reason for other countries to demand nuclear non-proliferation, since if missles are launched, chances are this US system would be knocking them out of the sky and they could be falling on Europe (if launched from Iran or China) or Canada (if launched from Russia or China).

Canada and Russia hopefully will be working to prevent Iran and No. Korea from setting up such missle systems in the first place.

7. Cheap and easy defense-proof missile: Just add an off-set tail fin
One tail fin set at a different angle from the others on a warhead will put it into a semi-random spin.

Just like the $20.00 rockets you can buy from Estes.

If you wanna get fancy, put an actuator on it.

8. Well, so far we haven't been able to shoot down any of our OWN
missiles...I don't think they have an insurmountable problem there...

9. Russia and other countries understand
that any "missile defense" system - provided it works, of course - is a first-strike weapon. It makes perfect sense for Russia or any other nation to develop some sort of countermeasure to solve any 'defense'.

What, was one Cold War not enough for the Pentagon?
