Bush Gets Stoned by the World Media - US Press Less Interested in Drug Talk
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A48042-2005Feb23.html

President Bush all but admits to illicit drug use for the first time.

Overseas it's the stuff of headlines. At home, the U.S. press has generally downplayed the story.

The divergent coverage of Bush's apparent drug use is a textbook study in the difference between the international online media and their American counterparts. On the issue of youthful illicit drug use, most U.S. news editors -- liberal, conservative or other -- defer to Bush in a way that their foreign counterparts do not.

The New York Times broke the Bush marijuana story Friday in a front-page report on Doug Wead, a Christian activist who has published a book based in part on conversations with Bush that Wead secretly recorded in 1998 and 1999. On Wead's tapes, whose authenticity the White House does not dispute, Bush came close to admitting he had smoked marijuana and avoided answering a question about whether he had used cocaine.

1. I wonder how many people his buddies in Texas sent to prison...
... for smoking a little weed, or doing a little coke.

There are different rules for the rich.

5. Remember..
When Clinton had to do the whole "but I didn't inhale?" thing to cover his ass? That wasn't even required now.

I'm actually amazed at how fast the American Media (as in, how they started off) just said "oh, how horrible that his 'friend' would leak these tapes!"

The hypocrisy is mind boggling.

7. HST's anecdote is priceless, if only it could be confirmed....
"I remember Bush as a kind of a butt-boy for the smart people. This was in the late 1970s, when he was in his drunken-fool period. He couldn't handle liquor. He knew who I was, at that time, because I had a reputation as a writer. I knew he was part of the Bush dynasty. But he was nothing, he offered nothing, and he promised nothing. He had no humour. He was insignificant in every way and consequently I didn't pay much attention to him. But when he passed out in my bathtub, then I noticed him. I'd been in another room, talking to the bright people. I had to have him taken away."

11. When you listen to Bush,
think of Ozzy Ozbourne. Years and years of endless drinking and pounds of cocaine inhaled, will dull the senses.

At this juncture, Bush is at an advanced stage of alcoholism (late stage). His ramblings are perfectly understandable for his condition. It can be mildly entertaining to listen to him botch the simplest of words, phrases. He'll stammer and stutter, "uh" "ah", "well - uh, you see uh -- ahm"...

Look up "Bush notables and quotables" in Yahoo search, or anything like "Bush screws up again". You will find millions of web sites.

Nowadays, his rhetoric has become simplified, comic-book jargon like "freedom", "democracy" "truth" "evil" and "evildoers".

12. I really don't think Ozzy and Bush would be a fair comparison
Ozzy was making a good buck to be sure and just as sure as a fool and his money soon part, I will bet there were substantial periods of his life he didn't have two nickels to rub together. And he had to make it to the shows and recording sessions or no paycheck too.

Chimp Boy on the other hand had unlimited funds during a time where he had Ø responsibility. And he has admitted to being on a "run" that lasted until he hit 40. His brain must be like mush.

I think Ozzy would be considered a lightweight in the grand scheme of things.

14. I'd rather this story stay out of the spotlight.
Wouldn't want it to overshadow Gannongate.

Now catch him on tape admitting to cocaine use, which could tie into his reasons for going awol...then I'll reconsider.
