Commander-in-Chef a Very Tall Order
Job constraints, politics make White House unappetizing to many Bay Area food stars

The White House is shopping for a new chef. But despite the Bay Area's national status as a culinary capital, no one really expects the search to focus here.

"I don't think they'll be calling,'' says renowned chef Nancy Oakes of Boulevard in San Francisco. "I think my name is on a list of fund-raisers for John Kerry.''

Even food, it seems, comes in red and blue.

The idea of going to the White House drew guffaws from many local chefs, staunch Democrats who say they would not serve even if asked.

(snip)

Several prominent San Francisco chefs laughed at the idea that the White House might come calling in the Bay Area.

Mitch Rosenthal, co-chef and owner of sizzling Town Hall in San Francisco, whose regional American cooking might be just the ticket for the White House, said, "No, I think Bush would bomb here if he could."

where I ask the question

Why No "Chef-Gate" Special Counsel

(If this had been Hillary Clinton)

Why has there been no call for a Special Independent Counsel to investigate the mysterious firing White House Executive Chef Walter Scheib.

No "Chef-Gate" Hearings? No "Kitchen-Gate" Hearings.

What does Laura Bush know? When did she know it? What is Jim Gannon's role? Karl Rove's role?

Where is the main stream corporate media?

Just change the names and dates -- if this had been Hillary during the Clinton Years. Tom DeLay and Newt Gingrich and Bob Novak or Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh would be having a field day

Added by edit: Can you imagine Al Franken - or the Morning Sedition crew - with this. (Maybe they have done it).

I think the average "chef" working at McDonalds would be well-qualified.

10. Peanut butter and banana sammiches
are a culinary challenge for even master chefs. The proper ratio of bread, peanut butter, and bananas is key for both proper flavor and texture. The bananas must be properly ripened and used before they get brown, at which point they become too sweet and lose their firmness. The secret that few would-be chefs realize is that you can't skimp on the bananas, particularly in THIS White House.
