Unknown plane fires missile at Iran’s nuclear reactor
http://www.aljazeera.com/cgi-bin/news_service/middle_east_full_story.asp?service_id=7038

Yeah I know it's Al Jazeera but, Damn, these days they seem to be telling more truth than the NY Times.

What y'all think?

<snippit>
An unknown plane fired a missile in a remote area near the southern Iranian city of Dailam in the province of Bushehr where Iran’s nuclear reactor is located, Iranian state television said on Wednesday.

The TV reported that a huge blast was heard this morning on the outskirts of Dailam in the Bushehr province.

Witnesses said that the missile was fired from an unknown aircraft some 20 km from the city, Iran's Arabic language Al-Alam said.

There was no immediate comment from Iranian officials and the report wasn’t carried in Persian media inside Iran.

7. Wasn't it supposed to be an empty fuel tank?

4. MSM said it was a fuel tank from a plane which fell to earth...
...so do we have to wait now for several weeks until the truth comes out from some foreign publication?

6. god, I hate that fake Al Jazeera - why can't they get their own name?
at suspicious hours in the middle of the night, they strike me as some black ops bullshit to discredit the actual Al Jazeera.

either that or some bozo piggybacking on their reputation and the ignorance of Americans.

8.  Iranian TV now says it was a blast at a dam construction site
that's the latest "official" explanation anyway.

9. To be honest: if an aircraft actually wanted to hit that nuclear reactor
with a missile, it would have, especially if it was an American or British aircraft.

Even if it had "missed," it probably would have still done some damage to the facility, which I haven't heard anything about.

And about the possibility of it being a depleted drop-tank, those aren't necessarily empty when they're dropped, and even if it was "empty" there would be some fuel residue under pressure inside.

just the understand I got studying aerospace engineering in high school.

11. This is still a developing story. So far Iran officials list...

1. A plane fuel tank fell off.

2. Friendly fire from one of their own planes.

3. Roadwork blasting.

4. Dam work blasting.

All as possible causes. Each is backed by statements from Iranian officials.

Fact is, we don't know what it was yet. But I'll bet they do.

It would figure al Jazeera would select the most inflammatory possibility. Sigh.

13. America's Next War

With nine percent of proven oil reserves, Iran was already the world's fifth largest producer. July 14, 2004 brought an announcement that a new oil field second in scale only to Saudi Arabia's legendary Ghawar facility had been discovered there. "Iran possesses far larger oil reserves than previously thought," writes Hooman Peimani in the Asia Times.

(The Bush Administration floated their Iran-Al Qaeda story a few days after news broke about the Iranian oil strike.) Iran's newfound oil wealth, its strategic control of the Persian Gulf and its ideal placement for a gas and oil pipeline from the Caspian Sea--long considered the sane alternative to the Trans-Afghanistan Pipeline--have mouths watering at Halliburton and the White House it controls.

12. WRONG Al Jazeera
This is not the right Al Jazeera, the "evil" one that gives the decent news but another one with the same name. Real one is aljazeera.net or english.aljazeera.net
