Official predicts quick Iran bomb progress (6 months)
How convenient...this fits with the prediction of shrub's timetable...have Iran become a "threat" this summer, then build it up from there in time for 2006 elections "we are at war" shit.

Iran will have the knowledge to build nuclear weapons within six months, Israel's foreign minister said Wednesday.

"In six months they will finish the tests to have the knowledge to produce weapons of mass destruction," Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom said during a visit to London, repeating long-standing Israeli government warnings about Iran's nuclear capabilities.

"This is not only Israel's problem, but an international problem, as the long-range missiles can reach Europe."

Israel has repeatedly said a nuclear Iran would be the biggest threat to stability in the Middle East, and Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz recently said Iran could have nuclear weapons within two years.

2. How Orwellian..............
never ending war to prop up the leader. Who want's to bet they repeal the law limiting a President to terms. george bush is the ONLY man who can protect us, you know? What a great job he's done so far.
Gawd I miss the Clinton years, it seems like an eternity ago. Peace and prosperity, what a bummer.

3. No, it's only Israel's problem
and how ironic is it that this guy is named Shalom?

I don't even know why he sees it as a problem for Israel, since it is well known that his state already possesses 300 nuclear warheads.

Has it ever crossed Shalom's mind that other nations believe in the doctrine of deterrence as well?

5. well, it's everyone's problem that there's only one nuclear-armed nation
in the ME. one nuclear nation makes for a world of troubles. especiallly when you tie in the religious difficulties assoc. with israel and the rest of the ME. (one judaic nation in a bunch of either secular or heavily islamic nations) and if you add in the danger of a "christian" nation entering into the playing field, with aspirations of empire.

to sum it up: WE'RE ALL SCREWED!

4. Don't think this is...
... exactly the position of the IAEA. And, the issue about missiles reaching Europe is a red herring. Israel is concerned about missiles hitting Israel. Israel is concerned about maintaining its nuclear hegemony in the Middle East, just as the US is concerned about helping them accomplish that maintenance.

6. Ah good. Our buddies in Israel provide the independent ...
...intelligence assessment we need. Now we don't have to try to say Iran is a threat, since the much vaunted Mossad (everyone knows Israel has the best intelligence service in the world, right?). Israel can say they are a threat and the US doesn't have to further strain our already completely discredited reputation for getting the facts straight.

Now we need the surgical air strikes to get rid of the Iranian nuclear capability...

Oh yeah. We just did that this morning, didn't we.

After the surgical air strikes the cowardly Iranians will attack our troops on the ground in Iraq. Then we get to declare war on Iran without congressional approval.

If someone (including us) uses a nuclear weapon in the ME, is that enough to justify abolishing the two-term limit (after all, its only been around since FDR)? Sure.

Is it enough to cancel the 2008 elections? No, not unless someone uses a nuke on the continental US. And you can bet it won't be in a red state.

If you are living in New York City, you might want to consider moving into the Catskills sometime before the spring of 2007.

7. Iran Will Know How to Build Bomb in 6 Months - Israel
http://reuters.myway.com/article/20050216/2005-02-16T131714Z_01_L16612742_RTRIDST_0_NEWS-NUCLEAR-IRAN-DC.html

LONDON (Reuters) - Israel said on Wednesday arch-foe Iran was just six months away from having the knowledge to build an atomic bomb, as Tehran accused the United States of using satellites "and other tools" to spy on its nuclear sites.

The Israeli warning followed Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's call last week for Iran to abandon any pursuit of nuclear weapons and meet its international obligations if it was to be sure of avoiding conflict.

"The question is not if the Iranians will have a nuclear bomb in 2009, 10 or 11, the main question is when are they going to have the knowledge to do it," Israeli Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom said on a visit to London.

"We believe in six months from today they will end all the tests and experiments they are doing to have that knowledge."

I guess they better get busy attacking or getting Bush to do their dirty work.

Israel has the bomb.
Why does the media ever mention this? It must be "official policy" not to comment on the matter.

1. Fool me once.. Well, not me..
Sounds a bit like a bad movie.

You know what though.. If this were true, I wouldn't blame Iran. We have already threatened them, and through our actions they know that we don't invade nuclear powers. They're just being smart.

8. So.... is this like the 45 minute missile warning the gave us for Iraq?
Or is this actually true? Does it even matter? I thought the PNAC timeline was Syria first...

little rhetoric--Well Iran go ahead and have one in 6 months--we've only got this administration to blame for all the world's ills anyways.
