NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- An Iranian national accused of supporting his country's nuclear missile program admitted to federal agents that he knew the shipments were illegal, federal prosecutors said.
In court documents unsealed Friday, prosecutors say Mohammad Farahbakhsh admitted to knowingly violating U.S. exporting laws by shipping computer equipment and sensors to Iran.
The documents were filed as part of the government's motion to keep Farahbakhsh detained while he awaits trial. Prosecutors said he is a flight risk and a danger to the community.
Farahbakhsh's lawyer has accused prosecutors of overstating the charges against him and compared the case with that of Richard Jewell, who was named in the 1996 Olympic bombing investigation but later cleared.
