'Gannon' Interview: No Plame Subpoena, No Tie to White House (E&P)
Edited on Fri Feb-11-05 04:45 PM by VolcanoJen
There's some fascinating back-pedaling as Gannon "unsilences" himself in this interview with Editor and Publisher, just released.

http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000799182

Excerpt:

NEW YORK In a lengthy, wide-ranging interview with E&P today, former White House reporter Jeff Gannon, whose real name is James D. Guckert, revealed that, contrary to many media reports, he had not been subpoenaed in the Valerie Plame/CIA case. Gannon/Guckert earlier this week resigned his reporting position for a conservative Web site, Talon News.

He also threw into question media accounts suggesting that he had seen a classified CIA document critical to the Plame case, saying he had made references to the “internal memo,” but adding, “I never said I had it or had seen it.” When asked if he had in fact seen it, he declined to say.

<snip>

Guckert said that contrary to many press reports, he was never subpoenaed by the special prosecutor and has never testified before a grand jury in the case. But he said he was interviewed by two FBI agents in his home for about 90 minutes last year.

<snip>

Asked if he had any other social connection to Rove or Press Secretary Scott McClellan, he said, "absolutely not. ... The only connection I had with Scott McClellan was when he got married and I sent him a card and left it at the press office for him." He said he gave no gift to McClellan.

He said he couldn’t understand why anyone would feel that letting him in to the presidential press conferences and briefings under an alias suggested a security breakdown. "If I am a Republican shill,” he said, “wouldn’t you think I am the least amount of a threat to the president?"

4. Sadly, Gannon's preparing himself for a new "New Media" career.
From the article:

"Even though it has been very painful,” he said of the current uproar, “lots of opportunities have come forward journalistically. Once all of this blows over, I think it might actually help that I have gotten this attention." He would not cite specific examples of any new opportunities.

He cited Dick Morris as an example of someone whose travails helped launch a media career.

I wouldn't be surprised if Fox News didn't give him a slot next to, oh I don't know...maybe Bill Oliely.

He will come out of all this all the better in the end but the most important thing is to expose the Bush propaganda machine in all it's manifestations.

9. Gannon-Rover Connection of Logic (not proof, but...)
Edited on Fri Feb-11-05 04:55 PM by Hissyspit
Jeff Gannon was acting like one of Nixon's "Rat Fuckers" (Democ-RAT Fuckers). He is probably connected to Karl Rove - seems like one of Rove's tricks - but that is the big question. Here is how Rove is connected to the Nixon people - Don Segretti. Remember that name from your childhood (Watergate coverage)?

18. Found it! Rove's connections to Nixon's ratfuckers!

Edited on Fri Feb-11-05 02:25 AM by Lex
.
"At 21, Rove dropped out of college and into politics, and became an early protégé of convicted Watergate player Don Segretti – the political operative who invented the term “ratfucking” in the first place. In that same tradition, Rove has been linked to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, attacks on John McCain’s mental health, and, back in Texas, the whispering that Democratic Governor Ann Richards was a lesbian. Rove remains, for many, a prime suspect in the outing of CIA agent Valerie Plame, and even Republicans tend to reinforce his image as Bush’s Dark Lord. “He dominates a campaign,” Republican strategist David Weeks told The Washington Post. “Nothing ever happens that he’s not aware of.”"

10. "The VOICE has gone SILENT???????"
You know what's kind of funny about this whole, sick, fascist, propaganda scenario....this guy, who after being outed put a whining farewell up on the web, is now EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!!!

If he's not giving interviews to NPR, he's hitting softballs courtesy of Leslie AKA WOLF Blitzer, with Howie Kurtz assisting in the mitigation. And now here he is again, being SILENT with E and P!

If this is SILENCE, I'd sure hate to be in the room when he is holding court!

I think he's absolutely panicked--and he feels that the best defense is a good offense. Problem is, he is not too bright (evidence: he hasn't paid his taxes due from 96, interest continues to accrue; he associates himself with pimping escort service websites, regardless of whether or not he is involved in the process himself; he puts a glamour shot of himself on the web; he lies about his name, his background, and does not even try to cover his tracks...etc., etc., and so forth!). I think he feels the hot breath of rabid disaster on his neck, and he is just dancing as fast as he can.

They shoot horses, don't they?

Do you think the special prosecutor in the Plame case may want to subpoena freeperland for this little lie:

Although he hinted that he had not seen a classified CIA document after all, he added, "I am not going to speak to that. It goes to something of a nature I do not want to discuss."

He admits seeing the document in his freep posts

Funny, but I always thought that a person being interviewed makes a CLAIM (which is then subject to further examination), as opposed to a REVELATION (which implies that truthfulness is taken as a given).

15. Contradicts McLellan's statement here:
but after finding out he needed a congressional press pass -- which he’d been denied -- to get that far, he utilized only the day passes. “I made several attempts to get a congressional pass, and each time they said 'no.' They were concerned with the Talon News business model,” he said. “They didn't feel that we fit the criteria."

He admits to trying to get a hard pass "several time"
McLellan said he never tried to get a pass

He keeps giving interviews where his statements don't jive with the "facts" and seems unbelievably clueless.

I saw him on Blitzer last night...and he seemed almost "simple" in his statements with a bit of a "deer in the headlights" look and attitude...this interview with E&P kind of adds to that.

He is psychologically unbalanced. In other words, he is a psycho. He actually believes these crazy stories when he tells them. When he gets caught in a lie, he lies again and says he never told the lie in the first place. His stinted psychological development gives him a social/psychological age of at most seven.

I mean, maybe he figures all publicity is good publicity. Maybe he's hoping he'll meet chicks this way. Or guys. Or whatever. Maybe he LIKES seeing a picture of himself in his tighty whiteys in the pages of the New York Daily News. Who knows. and I believe he and Scott have extremely close connections.

I just did some searching regarding Scott McClellan (brother Mark is now Medicare Chief) and the background is fascinating! Google his father "Barr McClellan" for starters.

39. Where's Reid's quick response? Maybe GannonGate is a distraction tactic.
Maybe his obvious shilling is meant to be a foil to hold up the credibility of the rest of the mainstream propaganda presstitutes.

I thought that was the reason Cheney looked like a snow plow operator at the Auschwitz ceremony, to keep people from talking about the Prescott Bush/Fritz Thyssen factory built near Auschwitz as part of the financing of Hitler's rise.

I spent the summer working outdoors with lots of annoying yellowjackets buzzing around. A friend showed me how to eat lunch without getting stung on the lip: Take a little piece of food and put it out in the open away from you. The yellowjackets swarm the offering and leave you alone.

Look out for this 'steer the swarm' tactic in the future.

press pass to the White House. Five days. He got his journalism "creditials" in a two hour, $50.00 seminar and this article makes it sound like he was a reporter working for a real news agency when they say...

"Gannon/Guckert earlier this week resigned his reporting position for a conservative Web site, Talon News."

Well, at least he ADMITS he used an alias to get press pass! You can blame him for mispresenting himself as a reporter for a news service, but is it his fault that the White House security was too incompeteent to notice?

54. BFD!
Oliver "traitor" North is a fucking journalist for FOXnews! It's our faults because we didn't make them answer for Iran/Contra. Now anything goes - no one is trying to stop them.

55. Gannon's own words
Gannon declined to comment on whether federal investigators have contacted or interviewed him and said that he has yet to receive a subpoena. Gannon also noted that he has not been contacted by any other news agencies.

"I don't know why I'm on the list of journalists being called before the Grand Jury," Gannon told Talon News. "I have been an outspoken critic of the leak probe and an aggressive questioner of the motives behind it. That seems to have drawn the attention of someone with the authority to issue subpoenas."

56. I thought they had a better leash on him
Has the White House completely divorced itself from "Gannon"? Not even giving him any kind of counsel? Foolish, if you ask me. He needs to be served a big bowl of shut-the-hell-up.

Even though it appears from the interview that Bush & Co have hung him out to dry, you'd at least think he'd have hired his own attorney by now. You know, someone to put a muzzle on him before he gets himself into some really hot soup.

This event won't tarnish Bush much, but I really do think it has the ability to bring down McClellan, on the security issue alone, and his own tainted credibility in handling "journalists." There are many more questions to be asked; I can only hope that since the media just looooooves stories about themselves, they'll give this thing some legs.

58. Are these sites similar in layout and content?
I know there are standard topics for web sites these days, but one logo looks like a stylized version of the other.
