Nuclear facilities safe from U.S. attack: Iran
Edited on Tue Feb-08-05 11:00 AM by Boswells_Johnson
TEHRAN - Iran's top nuclear negotiator said Tuesday that the country wants to resolve its problems with the U.S., but cautioned that an American military attack would fail to destroy all its nuclear facilities.

"We are not seeking tension with the United States," negotiator Hasan Rowhani told Iran's state-run television. "We are seeking to resolve our problems with America but it's the Americans who don't want problems be resolved."

...

But Rowhani said that a U.S. military strike against Iran's nuclear facilities would fail. Its nuclear facilities are spread throughout the country and partly built under the ground, making an aerial attack difficult.

"Iran's nuclear technology is in the hands of its scientists and workshops throughout the country. All of them have the ability to produce centrifuges. Therefore, America will not be able to destroy our nuclear facilities and mines through a military strike," he said.

1. Americans who don't want problems be resolved
do.... just ask the U.N. weapons inspectors how much they want problems resolved in a peaceful and diplomatic manner.

BTW, the HAARP can see down mine shafts and tunnels.. so if I were the Iranians, I wouldn't get too cocky about it.

Rumsfeld Asks For Restoration Of Nuclear 'Bunker Buster' Program
Washington (AFP) Feb 02, 2005
US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has asked for restoration of a supersecret research program designed to create a new class of nuclear weapons capable of destroying hardened underground targets, a Pentagon official said late Monday.

The request came in a letter Rumsfeld sent to then-Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham on January 10, in which he insisted that funds for studying the feasibility of the Robust Nuclear Earth Penetrator be restored.

"The Defense Department does support completion of the penetrator study," Major Paul Swiergosz, a department spokesman, told AFP. "We can't necessarily match Cold War weapons to the new threats. We have to adapt capabilities that we have to meet the threats."

A spokesman for the Department of Energy that runs US nuclear weapons research declined to say what the response would be.

However, International Atomic Energy Agency director, Mohamed ElBaradei, warned this week that the "bunker buster" program was sending "the wrong message" and could hinder international non-proliferation efforts.

"You can't tell everyone 'don't touch nuclear weapons' while continuing to build them," ElBaradei said in an interview with The Washington Post newspaper and Newsweek magazine.

5. You're Assuming
That the facilities are built near mine shafts and tunnels. For all we know they could have a nuclear facility built right under Tehran,
with the entrances located in specific government controlled buildings.

And the fact is that the US does not have much in the way of human itel gathering in Iran, and tunnel entrances and mine shafts could be decoy targets.
