U.S. May Study Israel Occupation Tactics
JERUSALEM - In an apparent search for pointers on how to police a hostile population, the U.S. military that's trying to bring security to Iraq is showing interest in Israeli software instructing soldiers on how to behave in the West Bank and Gaza, an Israeli military official said Thursday.

Using animated graphics and clips from movies like "Apocalypse Now," the software outlines a "code of conduct" for avoiding abuse of civilians while manning roadblocks, searching homes and conducting other activities, said Lt. Col. Amos Guiora, head of the School of Military Law.

Israeli troops have frequently faced criticism from Palestinian and human rights groups. Two weeks ago, Amnesty International said in a report that Israeli military checkpoints and curfews violate Palestinians' human rights.

U.S. soldiers have also faced criticism in Iraq, where they have been accused of using excessive force.

...

Guiora said the software, which is currently being distributed to junior commanders in military, also includes scenarios often encountered by troops.

In one, he said, two soldiers drive up to a pile of rocks blocking the road and are told it may be mined. What to do — call mine-clearing experts, remove the rocks themselves, or get some Palestinians to do it? Anyone choosing the last option is disabused by the program.

1. Wrong country
It would be better to study the UK methods in Northern Ireland rather than the mess the Israelis have in Palestine.

3. Policy of Starvation
A UN human rights expert is preparing to submit a report to the UN General Assembly that charges Israel of triggering a "humanitarian catastrophe" in the Palestinian territories, newspaper reports said on Wednesday.

The UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, Jean Ziegler, said in a draft report that the Israeli military is preventing Palestinians reaching food and water with restrictions on movement in the territories, according to Swiss newspaper Le Temps and news agency ATS.

"The humanitarian catastrophe that is emerging in the Occupied Territories must be reversed," the Swiss sociologist and UN expert was quoted as saying in the draft.

"There can be no justification for harsh internal closures that prevent people from having access to food and water, otherwise the imposition of such military measures are amounting to what has been called a 'policy of starvation'", he said in the report.

24. No food and water, kept in camps, in 1941
that was called genocide. Israel is becoming the very thing they hate and we are right behind them.

Disgusting and sick, btw, I believe Kissinger said many years ago that the biggest threat to the US is overpopulation in third world countries.

4. Yah, it's working real well for IDF!
And I'm SURE this strategy will certainly assuage the Arab world's mistrust that the U.S. and Israel are working in tandem.

10. Yes, let's let the Brits
(who have already lost their power status) and the Israelis (who live in a shitstorm of reactive violence) tell us how to handle folks!

Certainly has gotten THEM swift results, hasn't it?

20. Bush's election strategy - 911 part II
Provoke until we get hit again. Then Bush stays in office to "protect" us. I believe it was Crassius that was famous for this technique in Rome?

11. Finally, proof that we have our own West Bank
I opposed this war because it looked from the start like we were just getting our own West Bank (however, a much bigger one, worthy of our large superpower size). And here is proof that we got just that.

19. And the bulldozers are manufactured in the good old USA!
Thanks to Carterpillar Corporation, our troops can use their bulldozers to flatten the houses of Iraqi "terrorists" or even to flatten an entire town.

We are sinking deeper into barbarism!

better also ask the Israelis how they pissed off the Lebanese Shias when they invaded.. worked out so well for them, it would be just swell to repeat. Maybe Caterpillar is a backer of this war, fire up the bulldozers!

If they're asking advice on the model of the crushing of occupied-Palestine, it's clear that no idea is too terrible to consider.. Do they have the Russians on line 2 as well?--maybe the occupation forces will think that Fallujah may need the Grozny-treatment if it keeps up as it is..

22. LOL!
That's exactly what I was thinking! We can build a huge wall around the oil wells with little settlements around them. What goes on outside the wall is no concern.

Of course, if the settlement gets a little bigger and we have to expand the wall we could push the native population out of the way...

Oh... Here's another good idea... We can make roads that go from oil well to oil well that only we can drive on. No Iraqi should be allowed on the road (for obvious security reasons). If they have to cross the road we can set up checkpoints for their convenience. It should only take about three hours to get through these checkpoints so the Iraqis shouldn't have a problem with it.

"And I think to myself, what a wonderful world..."

(if it must be learned) but that wouldn't tick off nearly as many in the Arab world. What fools. They want war- they fan flames at every opportunity.

26. God will they stop at nothing?!
If it's now acceptable to take a page from the Israeli occupation handbook, who's to say they won't start openly using Hitler's tactis now. How long till we wear little yellow stars and go off to work camps? Is that what they're building at Guantanamo now? all this talk about building execution facilities there - maybe it's a new gas chamber. Oh wait, they're going to color code us on the computer instead. that's right. I knew that. silly me.
