Cheney Says Budget Will Be Tightest Yet
Sun, Feb 06, 2005

WASHINGTON - Vice President Dick Cheney (news - web sites) said Sunday the budget going to Congress this week was not prepared with a "meat ax," but that the administration found roughly 150 federal programs it believed can be cut or eliminated.

"We are being tight," Cheney said. "This is the tightest budget that has been submitted since we got here."

Cheney said the budget proposal President Bush (news - web sites) was submitted Monday increases spending on the military and homeland security, but overall keeps spending below next year's expected 2.3 percent increase in inflation.

The budget seeks savings from about 150 programs, including Amtrak, environmental protection, American Indian schools, farmers' subsidies and Medicaid, the federal-state health program for the poor and disabled.........

1. Tight for everyone but the rich and war contractors. I seem to
remember this mess during the Vietnam War. Back then the defense budget was 50% of the government budget. But SS wasn't included like it is now to throw off the amount spent on boondoggles.

2. screw the people.GOP MOTTO

What ******azzwipe******** he really means that they will try to make cuts in all the programs that actually help Americans have a better life

all the while spending billions more on unnecessary military buildups, corporate welfare, tax cuts for the rich, phony homeland security schemes and other pet programs of the far right.

It's time Americans woke up and understood what this crowd is up to.

if they would reinstall the taxes on the richest 1%, as Kerry proposed.

Cutting health programs for the poor and disabled. Tsk.

9. But remember, the democrats have to learn to talk values....
to the republican loving South. That's what this election was all about, the "left's" inability to talk values with the Southerners.:eyes: Never mind all this "budget this" and "budget that"

Dick Cheney is truly repulsive. Those going to be hurt by this budget who voted for Bush/Cheney got what they paid for.

10. BUSH 2: 2 6

Now the Emperor of America looked out over his land and did see that there were many poor, and old, and sick and this did trouble him.

He did see that these citizens in his land were taking money from his coffers.

And he did sayeth unto them, you are a great burden on the young and healthy.

And he sent forth a decree that the old, and poor, and crippled would be responsible for their own plight and if they could not lift themselves up, they should die and decrease the surplus population that did drain the treasury of gold needed for the wars that the Emperor did crave.

thanks to Yahoo poster.......so true..........

13. Shameless Bush...
...He created record-setting deficits. And now he's going to claim to be "oh so fiscally responsible" when he uses those deficits as an excuse to cut government programs the right wing does not like. Watch him crow about being a deficit hawk. He'll do it without a hint of irony. :(

Cheney: social security overhaul will cost trillions
By Christopher Lee
February 8, 2005

The US Government would need to borrow trillions of dollars over the next few decades to cover the cost of the private retirement accounts at the heart of President George Bush's plan to revamp social security, the Vice-President, Dick Cheney, has acknowledged.

In a TV interview on Sunday, Mr Cheney said the Government would have to borrow $US754 billion ($976 billion) over the next 10 years, and conceded that the price tag would involve borrowing trillions of dollars more in subsequent decades.

"That's right. Trillions more after that," Mr Cheney said in response to a question.

When you still had trillions in the bank.
You blew them off (and fired O'Neill) and said the tax cuts took precedence...so bugger off, ya dumb shit!

25. Bush Sending 'Tightest' Budget to Congress
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&e=2&u=/ap/20050207/ap_on_go_pr_wh/bush_budget

WASHINGTON - President Bush (news - web sites) is sending Congress a $2.5 trillion spending plan, constrained by war and record deficits, that seeks to slash spending in a number of popular programs from farm subsidies to poor people's health care.

While calling it the tightest budget of Bush's presidency, Vice President Dick Cheney (news - web sites) defended the spending blueprint against Democratic complaints that its austerity falls hardest on the poor.

"It's not something that we've done with a meat ax, nor are we suddenly turning our backs on the most needy people in our society," Cheney said on "Fox News Sunday."

The budget's arrival Monday on Capitol Hill sets off months of contentious debate, with lawmakers from both parties expected to fight to protect favorite programs.

Bush has targeted 150 programs for either outright elimination or severe cutbacks as part of an effort to meet his campaign pledge to cut the deficit in half by 2009, the year he leaves office.

Co-pay costs rising and now a possible "fee" for using this government service.

Cheney's right, they're not suddenly turning their backs on the most needy, they've been doing that for years now.

29. Massive tax cuts to the wealthy
Weren't they promised to solve all the ills of our slow Economy. Instead, what we get is richer rich and more debt. Oh I see 9/11 caused all these economic woes compounded by Clinton's 8 years that undid the "Reagen deficit Miracle".
