Out of control at Camp Crazy (Camp Bucca)
Edited on Sun Feb-06-05 07:29 AM by DoYouEverWonder
In front of a cheering male audience, two young women wearing only bras and panties throw themselves into a mud-filled plastic kiddie pool and roll around in a wild wrestling match.

At one point a man in the audience raises a water bottle and douses the entwined pair.

At another, a "referee" moves in to break up the scantily clad grapplers.

A young blond lifts her T-shirt to expose her breasts. A brunette turns her back to the camera and exposes her thong undies.

<snip>

The photos were taken in Camp Bucca, the military prison at Umm Qasr in the hot sands of southern Iraq near the Kuwaiti border.

"A sex party with alcohol that is prohibited would suggest a serious breakdown of military discipline," said Washington-based lawyer Eugene Fidell, a military-justice expert. "Just how it would be handled would be determined by the commander, who has very broad discretion in situations like this.

8. The breakdown of military discipline
is a very serious matter. Under Rummie and Co, the mightiest military in the world is totally out of control. Maybe Rummie should rethink that resignation?

10. It is very serious because it leads to not only plain stupid stunts like
this, but directly to the abuses of prisoners, detainees and innocents. Which in turn leads to verification of allegations by insurgents that we westerns as a whole are hypocritical assholes portraying our selfs as white knights riding to the rescue of those who don't want to be rescued. At least not by us. One lesson we Americans might want to study at some point is, there are people in this world who choose not to want to live like us.

In the article in decribes what occurred as something like a "college prank." I wonder at what middle eastern colleges these type of pranks occur.

12. Well said
From the minute the US got there and filled Saddam's palaces with Americans, one knew that respect for Iraqis wasn't going to be high on anyone's list.

This is one more "prank" that plays to that self-defeating image.

20. Is it any wonder there are "people in this world who choose not" to live,.
like us? I certainly agree with that statement by you.

What's wrong with the fact that there are people who don't want to live life like we do?

If we truly embrace "democracy", we would respect the fact that there will be those who want to live differently from us, and they should have the "freedom" to choose the form of their "democracy".

9. And people wonder why military women are disrespected
Because there is a cult of disrespecting women PERIOD in many military cultures. Come on, you all know I'm right. I lived in Fayetteville, NC, for almost six years,a nd there are huge amounts of scuzzy tit bars and strip clubs all over the place. But, so many of the military guys treat all of the women like that. Women I know in the military have told me that over and over again, and when they complained, would be told boys will be boys. I was sitting ina restaurant once with some friends. Some guy comes over to our table and sticks his West Point ring in our face and ask who wanted to suck his dick. My BIL was an officer in the Army for 13 years, and says this attitude was rampant.

Jesus. Get over the macho. This would not be allowed in any other "business," so it shouldn't be allowed here. They are other ways to blow off steam.

11. This is when yuo call Military Police
and report the SOB

Look I was a navy wife for five years, my hubby has long since retired from the Navy. I never had any problems with this... but I also took no shit from any who may want to.

I admit, the community was a tad different though..than the line infantry

16. This is not the infantry having booze & girl parties ...
It is military police and other support soldiers.

The infantry is out doing their job at locations throughout Iraq.

Before you make derogatory statements about "line infantry", have some facts to back it up.

I'm sure this type of thing would never happen in the majestic Navy - - home of Tailhook, etc., etc.

19. I share your concern
But in this specific case, the women participating are soldiers. Now, whether they themselves find the situation degrading or not is a valid question. Judging by the behavior of thousands of women on spring break, I'd say they see nothing wrong with their actions.

But even that is somewhat tangential. Where were the officers and NCOs when this was happening?

21. Exactly
That's what a bunch of 20 year-olds would do; just look at spring break or Mardi Gras. But this is the military, so where's their leadership? Condoning, even if tacitly, illegal activities?

N.Y. tabloid reports WNC soldier disciplined for antics

By Clarke Morrison

ASHEVILLE — A New York City tabloid is reporting in today’s editions that a 19-year-old Henderson County soldier has been disciplined for taking part in a party at Camp Bucca in Iraq at which women mud wrestled in their underwear.

Photos leaked to the Daily News show women soldiers flashing male onlookers and others wrestling and cavorting in a mud-filled plastic pool as men cheer and snap pictures.

The newspaper said experts called the Oct. 30 incident a serious breakdown of military discipline that prompted an investigation by authorities.

Deanna Allen, 19, a member of the Asheville-based 105th Military Police Battalion, is the only soldier to be punished so far, the newspaper said. She was demoted from specialist to private first class.

Guard Member Demoted for Mud Wrestling

February 6, 2005, 4:06 PM EST

RALEIGH, N.C. -- A female member of a National Guard military police unit was demoted for indecent exposure after a mud-wrestling party at the Army-run Camp Bucca detention center in Iraq, a military spokesman said Sunday.

The party occurred Oct. 30, as the 160th Military Police Battalion, an Army Reserve Unit from Tallahassee, Fla., prepared to turn over its duties to the Asheville-based 105th Military Police Battalion, said Lt. Col. Barry Johnson, spokesman for detainee operations at Camp Bucca.

In the course of the transfer of duties, "some individuals in their exuberance decided to put together a mud-wrestling thing," Johnson said Sunday by telephone. "There were females involved, and some members of the 105th also became involved, one female soldier in particular."

Following an inquiry, that soldier was demoted and placed on restriction for participating in the event, specifically for indecent exposure, he said.
