US Islamic group calls for disciplinary action against general for remarks
A major U.S. Islamic group has called for “appropriate disciplinary action” for the Marine general who said, “It’s fun to shoot some people.”

“We do not need generals who treat the grim business of war as a sporting event,” Nihad Awad, director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said in a statement. “These disturbing remarks are indicative of an apparent indifference to the value of human life.”

Marine Corps officials at the Pentagon said they’ve received about a dozen calls and e-mails complaining about Mattis’ comments as well, but said there were no plans for disciplinary measures.

“As far as we’re concerned, the issue is closed,” said a spokesman.

3. Welcome to DU...I agree and want to add
Not only a disgrace, but representative of FAR too
many people. Unfortunately, he symbolizes the
manifestation of our collective psychosis as a country.
Not we here at DU, but a great many right wing, talk
radio listening, bushbots...
Sad, I know.
But note this-
How many people do you know that
actually demanded his resignation for making
such a public horrendous declaration?
From what I understand, his audience applauded his remark.

Look at Boykin - his comments actually advanced his career in the Bush administration.

5. Welcome to DU, amd sadly you are probably right...
I am growing increasingly alarmed at the hate fest
growing among our fellow citizens...
Check out Paul Levy's site and essay called
"The Madness of George W. Bush"
http://www.awakeninthedream.com
He talks about how Bush is but a symbol of our
collective sickness...I agree and have not heard it
analyzed better by anyone to date.

6. Thanks
for the welcome, and for the link. And, I am heartened by American Muslims having the courage to speak out.

They could be "detained" with out charges or due process
for speaking out.
"Either your with us or your against us" as the pRetzledent said.
And the trouble with that whole scenario is the fact that is
has already happened and NO one said peep about it.
My fellow citizens are scaring me more every day.
They are acting just like the "good" Germans under
Hitler's rule.

8. Matti will be put in charge of military's domestic violence program
He'll be the debriefer to families being reunited with loved ones upon return from 12-18 month deployments.

Just a hunch, if I know Bush, and I think I do.

9. Nathan Bedford Forrest (quoted in story)....
...was a post-civil war founder of the original Ku Klux Klan.

...he also was responsible for the Fort Pillow Massacre, in which hundreds of Black Union soldiers were brutally murdered -- after surrendering -- by Confederate troops under Forrest's command.

....not exactly a guy most would want in their corner. most, but certainly not all..
