Indiana: Suspect: Girl Abducted Because She Saw People With Drugs
http://feeds.bignewsnetwork.com/redir.php?jid=86ee5388c78916a9&cat=84aeba5e9b6e1230

CROTHERSVILLE, Ind. -- A suspect in the death of a southern Indiana girl told investigators she was abducted last week because she saw people take part in illegal drug activity, according to court records.

Charles James Hickman, 20, allegedly told investigators that 10-year-old Katlyn "Katie" Collman saw some people using or making methamphetamine, so they abducted her Jan. 25 in Crothersville and took her to Hickman's home.

Katlyn "Katie" Collman's body was found three days after an Amber Alert was issued, and five days after she first was reported missing. Hickman was arrested Wednesday, and is now behind bars -- in solitary confinement for his own safety -- charged with murder. His first court appearance is Friday.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Hickman told police that they wanted to intimidate the girl, so he took her to a body of water about 20 miles away. He said her hands were tied, and she either fell in or was bumped into the water, according to the affidavit. In the affidavit, an FBI agent wrote that Hickman "left the area with Collman's unmoving body still in the creek."

2. I live about 30 miles from there.
It has been big news here of course. Meth is pandemic here especially in that county and the one that I live in.

I find this hard to believe because Indiana is such a Bush loving Bible red state this should never happen in Bush country.

Well southern Indiana might as well be Alabama southern Indiana is as close you can get to the south without actually being there.

8. Texas and Oklahoma both have meth issues
....and when that recent pseudoephedrine ban was passed in Oklahoma, there were reports that the OK druggies started crossing the TX-OK and the OK-Kansas borders to get what they needed.

9. I grew up in Scott Co
but have lived in California since 1973. Haven't been back since the parents passed away. Grew up on a farm and always thought the countryside was beautiful. The people made me crazy, though. Agree, southern Indiana is as close to the south as you can get without actually being there. Some of themthere Hosiers truly do have shit for brains.

3. The tragedy of stupidity.
Even if I bought the defense that they were only trying to intimidate the victim (which I don't), it's really stupid to start doing extra crimes (false imprisonment, assault, battery) to cover up for one crime (drug making).

This defense didn't work for the 4 soldiers who drowned those 2 Iraqi civilians. I don't see it working very well here either.

5. I am from thew area well about 30 miles.
This guy is pure white trailer trash, I know I am being stereotypical but I call them as I see them. This guy is loser who did little but sit in front of his mother's trailer, selling drugs to people who go bye and partied at night disturbing his neighbors.

7. no worries, I didn't see stereotyping in your post.
If the guy is trash, and happens to live in a trailer, and happens to be white, your description would be factually accurate in this one individual's case.

He has already proved himself to be trash (in admitting his involvement before his own trial). His residence and his race are easy enough to verify later.

Now, if you had assumed certain things about his character based on his race and his residence, then that would be stereotyping.

And your resulting assessment would be poorly reasoned, even if it turned out to be coincidentally accurate.
