Bush: Mideast Peace Drive 'Stalled' Due to Arafat
Bush: Mideast Peace Drive 'Stalled' Due to Arafat
Thu September 18, 2003 11:13 AM ET

CAMP DAVID, Md. (Reuters) - President Bush acknowledged on Thursday that his Middle East peace plan had stalled, and blamed what he called the failed leadership of Palestinian President Yasser Arafat.

snip....

"Mr. Arafat has failed as a leader," Bush said. "Prime Minister Abbas was undermined at all turns by the old order. That meant Mr. Arafat. ... That's why we're now stalled," Bush said at the presidential retreat outside Washington.

snip......

"The road map will be there at any time that we can make progress on it," she said. "The main thing is we need a Palestinian interlocutor who can deliver on the obligations of the road map."

"The key is going to be the unification of the security services under the Palestinian prime minister, not under some broad committee, not under the president -- under the prime minister. ... You've got to have someone who can fight off terror," she said.

1. The price of ceasefire is Palestinian civil war.
Bush is damn near giving his approval to taking out Arafat too, by saying nothing can be done with him. I wonder if Powell and Rice have been undermined by this or not. We'll see soon I guess.

4. ME peace is stalled because Sharon wants it that way....
He has no intentions for peace, dismantling settlements, removing walls, agreeing to a Palestinian state, or anything else. Fuck Bush, he's simply parroting whatever it is Sharon tells him to say....

9. It must have been a pretty pathetic peace plan...
...if an 'irrelevant' guy practically under house arrest could mess it up so easily.
