Bush Reports No Evidence of Hussein Tie to 9/11
Edited on Thu Sep-18-03 02:48 AM by BROCockY
President Bush said today that he had seen no evidence that Saddam Hussein was involved in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, as the White House tried to correct an assertion that Vice President Dick Cheney left extremely murky on Sunday.

How soon they forget:

The impact of Bush linking 9/11 and Iraq
American attitudes about a connection have changed, firming up the case for war.
By Linda Feldmann | Staff writer of The Christian Science Monitor

WASHINGTON - In his prime-time press conference last week, which focused almost solely on Iraq, President Bush mentioned Sept. 11 eight times. He referred to Saddam Hussein many more times than that, often in the same breath with Sept. 11.

Bush never pinned blame for the attacks directly on the Iraqi president. Still, the overall effect was to reinforce an impression that persists among much of the American public: that the Iraqi dictator did play a direct role in the attacks. A New York Times/CBS poll this week shows that 45 percent of Americans believe Mr. Hussein was "personally involved" in Sept. 11, about the same figure as a month ago.

Sources knowledgeable about US intelligence say there is no evidence that Hussein played a role in the Sept. 11 attacks, nor that he has been or is currently aiding Al Qaeda. Yet the White House appears to be encouraging this false impression, as it seeks to maintain American support for a possible war against Iraq and demonstrate seriousness of purpose to Hussein's regime.

"The administration has succeeded in creating a sense that there is some connection ," says Steven Kull, director of the Program on International Policy Attitudes (PIPA) at the University of Maryland.

5. How many words is that? Cheney was there to explain other "misspeakings...
But, like with the 16 words, they keep weaseling:
"
"Now, what the vice president said was is that he has been involved with Al Qaeda," Mr. Bush said.
"And al-Zarqawi, an Al Qaeda operative, was in Baghdad. He's the guy that ordered the killing of a
U.S. diplomat," meaning the death of Laurence Foley last October in Jordan."
Whatch for this one to be nuked out of the water soon, and then the janitor blamed.
What unca Dick did say was: "AlQaeda's geographic base was in Iraq" which makes Afghanistan another "oops"

8. Now that * and the corporate media have gotten 70%
of Americans believing Hussein was directly connected with Al Queda it is too late. The retraction rarely gets the attention that the original story got. Just ask any newspaper person. Wonder if the Democrats will have the intestinal fortitude and spine to pick up on this MAJOR flip flop. Somehow I doubt it.

This was part of a conversation/discussion this guy wanted to have last night following Al Franken's appearance in St Louis. He truly believed that Hussein was the most evil person on the planet and an IMMINENT threat to Israel and the US (this guy was very orthodox so that may contribute to his thinking as well). When one of my buddies, an evil DUer, said that Hussein had no connection to Al Queda the orthdox guy asked how could he prove that. Well for one bin Laden in one of his videotapes called Hussein an infidel and a socialist (not everyone views being called an infidel and a socialist as an insult but there it is). The orthdox guy did not accept this as proof that Hussein had no connection to Al Queda. Shows you how effective propaganda is, almost 70 years after Triumph of the Will. The argument became circular and there was no convincing him otherwise so we just left after I said I had to get up very early (330AM).
