Russia, China Confirm Plans for Joint Military Exercises in 2005
http://www.mosnews.com/news/2005/02/01/chinagames.shtml

Russia and China will conduct their first ever joint military exercises in August or September to better coordinate the fight against terrorism, the AFX news agency reported, citing an article in the China Daily newspaper.

Russian First Deputy Defence Minister Alexander Belousov confirmed the war games during talks in Beijing, the newspaper said.

“We will hold our first joint command staff exercises with the Chinese army in August or September involving various forces to practice issues involving fighting our common enemy —- international terrorism,” he said.

In December, the Russian news agency Interfax said the exercises would be on Chinese territory and include the army, navy, air force units, and submarines.

I would be nervous if I live in Taiwan or Chechnya. Looks like they are about to be "liberated" soon.

3. Ah "terrorism"....
I don't think it's just to pick off weaker countries in their own regions. They are banding together, sorta like the EU. IMO it's reaction to our imperialist tendencies.

4. This is a hoot.
Chimps soul mate hasn't been persuaded by the expert Russian speaking Condi to see things our way.

Seriously, a military alliance between these two sends a loud message to Chimp, don't fuck with Iran. Too bad the administration only makes outgoing calls so the message won't be heard.

6. Update 2: Rosneft: China Not Involved in Yukos Buy
Russia's Rosneft state oil company said Wednesday it had received US$6 billion from China as prepayment for future crude supplies, but denied that the money was used to buy prized assets formerly owned by the beleaguered Yukos oil giant.

Rosneft said that it had signed an agreement with China to deliver 48.4 million metric tons of oil, equivalent to more than 350 million barrels, through 2010. It said in a statement that the prepayment was "unrelated" to Rosneft's purchase of an obscure company that had bought Yukos' core production unit, Yuganskneftegaz, at a controversial government auction.

Russia's Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin said Tuesday that a group of banks, including China's Eximbank, had loaned state-run Vnesheconombank US$6 billion (euro4.6 billion) and that money had been transferred to Rosneft.

Rosneft denied what it described as Kudrin's claim that the money from China had been used to finance its purchase of Yuganskneftegaz.

12. Hell, if I were Russia, I would suck up to the massively economic
powerhouse of the world, China, also. Combine
that with a Venezuelan contract for oil and the US is
toast.
