US plans to reassign troops in Iraq
http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/BA2DC20D-A128-490A-8845-50EDF624F556.htm

US military commanders are planning to reassign thousands of US troops in Iraq to advise and train Iraqi military units, officials say.

The plan is to transfer up to a brigade, or about 5000 soldiers, to the training role, they were quoted as saying by the New York Times, adding that many more would be assigned adviser jobs.

To compensate for the loss of fighting power, one officer said, commanders intend to put the Iraqi units they train in the field.

"It will be a process of 'train-fight-train'," the officer said

1. a couple hundred Naval reservists left the other day for Iraq
from here...Virginia Beach.....and the news about it was that they were surprised they were going into combat. So thats another means of compensating.

5. I noticed that irony as well
as I was posting this morning. Irony abounds in this misadventure. It is too bad so many people are getting killed in the process.

:(

8. Hi Gin
I'm from Va Bch also - or at least grew up there, folks are there still.

Naval reservists being deployed for combat? :wtf: What's up with that? Navy guys aren't really trained for street to street combat missions, at least not when my son went through training in 2000...

It was midnight on the sea,
The band was playing 'Nearer, My God, To Thee,'

9. Love the post.
How fitting. As we drive into the abyss, looking not backwards, but not forward either. If we would only take a look back at what's been done, we would surely know what to expect from the future.

11. Right on schedule.
After the "elections", US forces will be redeployed to guard oil facilities. Complete responsibility for law and order in Iraqi cities will be given to the Iraqi police. US forces will ensure the oil flows to pay the war profiteering corporations. That is the reason we are there.
