Bush to take a bow for Iraq vote in upcoming 'State of the Union' speech

22 minutes ago Politics - AFP

WASHINGTON (AFP) - As President George W. Bush (news - web sites) unveils his domestic and foreign agenda in his State of the Union speech later this week, the annual address also looks likely to give him a chance to take a bow after Sunday's elections in Iraq (news - web sites).

(snip)

Bush spoke by phone Monday with Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi and President Ghazi al-Yawar, and all three leaders agreed that Sunday's vote was "a great success," and a blow against terrorism, White House spokesman Scott McClellan said at a press briefing.

British Prime Minister Tony Blair (news - web sites), French President Jacques Chirac, and German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder also spoke to Bush following the election, all agreeing that the vote was "a significant step forward" for Iraq and a blow to terrorists, said McClellan.

"The president expressed his appreciation for the strong statements in support the democratic process now advancing in Iraq. All agreed that the election is a victory for the Iraqi people," he told reporters.

Oh, wait, Iraq isn't over with...they still have to do this all over again in October...THEN they can start the process all over in another 'front' of the endless war.

13. Why trouble himself with reality?
Anyway, then he'd be bowing constantly - might hurt himself or something. Did anyone NOT expect it to be declared "a great success"? This man sickens me more than words can describe.

10. Will he mention the four dead Marines killed today?
How about the 10 UK troops killed when their C-130 was shot down today?

How about all the other U.S. soldiers killed between now and the speech?

27. Hell no! That is reality! Bush doesn't deal with reality...
Bush doesn't care what is going on in the "real world." All he cares about is what is going on in "his world." In shrub's world, everything is hunky dory and democracy and freedom is being spread throughout the world.

"Casualties? What casualties?"

God I hate that man.

18. Yeah, well the more he gloats, the more
he's going to anger the Iraqis.

Just watch him beam with pride at his SOTU this week. Watch him smile from ear to ear. See his hand, making a sweeping gesture, grandiosely proclaiming that Iraq now has "Freedom". He'll use the word 55 times.

Next, he'll use the word "liberate" 43 times. Also, "democracy" will be used 39 times.

He'll use the words "succeed", "glory", "realization", "struggle".

Let him. Just watch the backsplash.

January, no matter what. Just a hunch, but I figure he knew the election was going to be fixed, therefore, he could use the "success" of the elections in his sotu speech.

Of course like "mission accomplished" and the June 04 turnover of power to an "interim" government, the situation in Iraq worsened after both of those events.
