USS Reagan commissioned
Edited on Sun Jul-13-03 03:03 PM by DS
NORFOLK — It was one for the Gipper.
Thousands of cheering onlookers yesterday witnessed the commissioning of the Navy's ninth Nimitz-class aircraft carrier — named in honor of Ronald W. Reagan, the 40th president of the United States.
The Navy's newest nuclear-powered carrier, adorned with red, white and blue bunting and a huge U.S. flag, became activated for duty during an invitation-only ceremony at Naval Station Norfolk, the largest naval base in the world.
"The Navy we have today is in many ways a monument to the vision and the convictions of Ronald Reagan," said Vice President Dick Cheney, who delivered the principal address at the ceremony. "He came to the presidency with a clear understanding of the tools our Navy would need to protect the American people, to honor our commitments to allies and to maintain command of the seas."
A horde of sailors then boarded the carrier as a band played "Anchors Aweigh." Two F-14 Tomcat and two F-18 Hornet jets flew in formation and the ship's whistle sounded, both traditions of carrier commissionings.

3. What a crock
Reygun wanted a 600 ship navy. Once he was out of office bush 1 started cutting the fleet back. Once again a lie that wasn't challanged. The fleet is hurting and it is only going to get worse.

5. Shameful...
We name a ship after a prez. who sold stinger missiles to Islamic Jihad. What next, the U.S.S. Bin Laden? Why not? Both he and Reagan supported the "terrorist freedom fighters" in rooting those Russkies out of Afghanistan.

He also sold Mr. Hussain the agents to build his WMD's in the '80s.

The 240+ marines that Reagan got killed on Lebonese soil would have had a better chance of surviving if that imbecile had left them on the ship, as recommended by his own joint chief of staffs.

What a friggin' joke. I wouldn't name a rubber duckie after that bastard, much less a U.S. aircraft carrier. Our servicemen should fight on ships named after real heroes, not cowardly zeroes.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1992 - Iran/Contra testimony:

"I'm very embarrassed," responded Reagan. "I'm sorry. … It's like I wasn't president at all."

7. USS Ronald Reagun
Sometimes the ship will go in whatever direction it wants, regardless of what it's captain or any of it's sailors want.

Weapons from it's hold will randomly dissappear only to show up in the hands of terrorists. And entries from it's log will shred themselves.

It'll only work when used to attack defenseless little carribean islands.

Eventually the radar will malfunction and it'll forget where it is.

<OK, that last one was in bad taste>

8. One person who most likely didn't participate
in the festivities was Ron Reagan, Jr., who is on record as saying that he doesn't need weapons of war to remember his father. He said he had no plans to attend. On the other hand, Michael Reagan, the adoptive son who barely even lived with his father, was on hand to tell his warm, fuzzy memories of times spent with dear old dad. Michael claimed in his autobiography that after his father's marriage to Nancy, the couple refused to let Michael live with them, claiming they didn't have room. Reagan also never bothered to see his grandchildren till they were 3 or 4 years old.

9. Let's just call it the USS Death Star now.....
It's only reason for existance is to threaten foriegn governments with obliteration if they do not comply with the Evil Empires (us unfourtunately) demands.

I bet they even have a Princess Leia torture chamber and trash smashing room just like on Star Wars. The guys on deck already wear the funny blast helmets.

C'mon you evil GOP leaders!! Don't hold back.
