Begg father rejects risk claims Jan 27 2005


The father of the Birmingham man freed this week from Guantanamo Bay today rejected US claims that his son was still a risk to security.

Pentagon officials said they continued to believe Moazzam Begg and the other released detainees Feroz Abbasi, Martin Mubanga and Richard Belmar posed a "significant threat".

But Azmat Begg, father of Moazzam, said nothing had been proved against his son, despite hundreds of interviews in Guantanamo.

Asked if his son was bitter or angry, Mr Begg said: "No, he is very quiet, he is very determined. He wants to fight for people who are still there and he is definite and sure that they are not terrorists or anything like that, they haven't done anything wrong."
