4. The gay marriage issue is reason # 1 why
my LA in-laws voted for *. It was nor in their best financial interest to vote for him but they would never consider that. They are anti-black, anti-gay and anti-intellectual. Only one has ever moved away and none of them have any post secondary education. As far as family values go, they are hypocrites. They've had divorces, adulteress affairs and out-of-wedlock children. But since they are white, it's OK.

My brother-in-law went to his grave without reconciling with his gay son. They didn't mention the son in the obituary or at the funeral. Everyone knew that he had the son, but they all pretended like he had never existed. It was so sad. It made me sick.

NEW ORLEANS — The Louisiana Supreme Court today unanimously reinstated the anti-gay marriage amendment to the state constitution that was overwhelmingly approved by voters in September.

The high court reversed a state district judge's ruling in October striking down the amendment on the grounds that it violated a provision of the state constitution requiring that an amendment cover only one subject.

"Each provision of the amendment is germane to the single object of defense of marriage and constitutes an element of the plan advanced to achieve this object," the high court said.

The court's ruling puts the amendment in the constitution.

6. Bush himself disagrees with this statement
"Each provision of the amendment is germane to the single object of defense of marriage and constitutes an element of the plan advanced to achieve this object," the high court said."

These (elected) justices are giving the legislature a wildcard to do any number of things as long as it advances the cause of "defending traditional marriage."

If the legislature decides they want to stick cameras in people's bedrooms or ban "gay" literature, with the object of "defending traditional marriage," by the court's definition the Assembly would have that right.

This decision makes me sick. If I were a LA voter, I would not be voting for any of these justices ever again.

3. Another reason to boycott Louisiana
You can bet New Orleans' economy will suffer because of this.

How much remains to be seen.

7. Living in Louisiana and dealing with it...
All of this has been going on for years in LA. The state is quick to "preach" morality, but has never quite acted upon a "moral" code of conduct. New Orleans will not suffer for this, nor will the state in whole.Louisiana will just keep going as always, with the attitude of ignorance. People in the state, (I should know, I lived there for ten years,) will continue to preach the "gospel" of rights and wrongs,as they are heading out the back door with their "lover", on their way to a casino, with a fifth of Bourbon in the backseat. The hypocrisy has never ceased to amaze me.

Louisiana will always be known for it corrupt ways. I think that the state enjoys this image. As for the Supreme court of LA, I Know one Justice had an affair,"wrecked" a marriage and moved on as if nothing ever happened. Other than the politics, economy, poverty, and being last in almost everything, LA is a great place to live.

12. studying
I consider this part of my continuing education. Thought you were working? But since you obviously were not, what is your take on this issue, is New Orleans going to shut down? Or will it just continue as always?

13. It won't change a thing in New Orleans
I hate to see the law passed though, because it is such a gratuitous slap in the face to gay people who already get dissed enough for no good reason.

All part of the republican divide and conquer, god/guns/gays wedge issue that Dean spoke about so eloquently

14. god/guns/gays
So the ideal male society would be one that was only; non-gay, assault weapons carrying, bible thumper men? Where do woman fit into this big scheme? Oh never mind we need to stay home make babies, clean the house and feed our "men". Louisiana is not the only state though that is following this trend.

I know a couple of gay men that own guns, and even (gasp)go to church.

Have to go now...It is time to "clean" my house.

8. I Fear Speaking My Mind On This Issue.
I am afraid to tell you what I think because I'll be accused of being an anti-Christian bigot.

I'll just sit quietly over here, and try not to intimidate or anger anyone. I'll set a good example and wait for these people to come to their senses.

10. This just makes me sick
Edited on Wed Jan-19-05 06:33 PM by superconnected
I already sent out emails about it.

My favorie Gay from Louisiana is(was) Kevyn Aucoin. Sad the place has not progressed. He said in an interview in the 90's that he left the place for NY because he thought he was going to be killed for being gay.
