Rice: U.S. Was Prepared for War in Iraq
WASHINGTON - Secretary of State nominee Condoleezza Rice (news - web sites) gave no ground in Senate confirmation questioning Tuesday, insisting the United States was fully prepared for the Iraq (news - web sites) war and its aftermath and refusing to give a timetable for U.S. troops to come home.

An American exit strategy depends on Iraq's ability to defend itself against terrorists after this month's elections, she said.

Rice seemed headed for easy confirmation by the Senate as President Bush (news - web sites)'s choice to be the country's top diplomat. She did have a tense exchange with Sen. Barbara Boxer (news, bio, voting record), D-Calif. — Rice repeatedly asked the senator not to question her truthfulness — but former presidential nominee John Kerry (news - web sites), D-Mass., was the only member of the Foreign Relations Committee who told her she might not win his vote.

"This was never going to be easy," Rice said of the war and its aftermath during a confirmation hearing in which she painted an optimistic picture of the future in Iraq — and for resolution of the long conflict between Israel and the Palestinians as well.

1. An optimistic picture of the future in Iraq?
Why don't you move there, Condi, if you are so optimistic. I'm sure Riverbend will be happy to show you around.
BTW, don't bring your hair dryer, as there might not be any electricity...

2. Of course they won't.
Kerry still won't admit that his vote to allow Bush to invade Iraq was wrong, only that Bush fucked the whole thing up.

Only Dean, Kucinich, and Sharpton were against the invasion from the start. Kerry WAS a flip-flopper who confused everyone on where he really stood.

3. LIAR.
Troops were rushed to pre-emptive war to spread democracy (yes it DOES sound insane, doesn't it):

WITHOUT ENOUGH RIFLES. WITHOUT ENOUGH BODY ARMOR. WITHOUT ENOUGH BULLETS. WITHOUT ENOUGH FOOD. WITHOUT ENOUGH WATER. WITHOUT ENOUGH UPARMOR VEHICLES. WITHOUT ENOUGH NIGHT-VISION GOGGLES. WITHOUT ENOUGH VEHICLE PARTS.

The US Military previously reported the above to Congress; WHERE WERE YOU WHEN THEY REPORTED ALL THE SHORTAGES, RICE???

without enough body parts. sad but true, and those vets coming home don't get the support they need, for physical and mental ailments.

16. Pull your chair in
let me tell you a story

Hubby deployed for that fun and games... and half way through we were asked by the command, not shitting you, for toilet paper, soap, shaving kits, shampoo, et al. Those were not available anywhere in theater...

So they went to war with a broken supply chain, but don't worry, Halliburton was filling up tanker after tanker, after tanker...

18. I know; my hubby was there, too. 4th ID, Baquoba.
And he says he WILL NOT go back. PERIOD.

Twenty years (20) he's been active duty; 5 war tours. But as he says, he NEVER signed up to wage "SUPREME CRIME" ILLEGAL WARS OF AGGRESSION INVADING & OCCUPYING NATIONS INNOCENT OF ANY THREAT/WRONG-DOING TOWARDS AMERICA.

20. US Navy, he retired soon after coming home
he put in the paperwork oh... on the way back... they tried to convince him to stay in. THey even offered rank increase...

The boat had no food... as you know the suply chain was broken... they ended up feeding troops at Bahrain where they were given MREs for ALL meals

By the way, thank your husband for his service and I hope he can do what mine did... and mine tells the story of those halliburton ships to anybody who will listen, and so do I.

As to his opinion of the war, I think your husband and mine agree... and we agree with them. The reports from Abu Ghraib had me screaming at the teeevee and him, he just sat in shock... Boykin... what can I say? What a damn fiasco!

4. what happened?
if we *were* prepared, what happened to that preparedness? The PNAC folks were prepared for the idea ... they came up with it ... but the military preparedness is another matter.

5. rice is incompetent
She has no place being in high office, let alone in management.

She's incapable of observing the facts, or making decisions that do not
results in 1000's of murders. Short of being charged with war crimes
and needing a hanging, she should be retired in a padded room away from
any microphones for her ongoing delusions.

8. She's not trying to be competent.
All she ever does is try to reinforce the party line. She makes no attempt to do her job as National Security Adviser, and now she will make no attempt to do her job as Secretary of State.

Prepared for the Iraq War? Prepared enough to supply the troops with body armor? Doesn't seem so, does it?

7. Insanity amok.
Everywhere. It is driving me nuts. But that is what it is supposed to do! Drive me to a MD to prescribe something to attenuate the psychological pain and trauma of living under a public government, corrupted and governed by the drug and oil companies. The oil companies get theirs', no-questions-asked at the pumps. But big Pharma is the big winner, long term, thanks to Bu$h.

Curl up and die in pain, for your homeland, and - fer Jesus Christ's sake - don't choke on the cat food.

15. "WHO" WAS PREPARED FOR WAR?
Don't freakin' categorize the rest of this country into your sick, self-serving fold!!!!

Don't F*CKING TELL US (as you "rationalize" away and away and away your own soul, SOLD) that WE WERE PREPARED FOR YOUR WAR!!!

YOU SOLD YOUR MASTER'S WAR LIKE IT WAS A BIRTHDAY PRESENT TO OUR CHILDREN. You are a SICK, self-indulged servant to a corporatist/capitalist/fascist lot of "rulers".

Ashame.

19. Hmmm, I wonder
how prepared we would have been if Iraq would of had WMD's and used them. The Iraqi's seem to be giving us a pretty hard time with just a few "dead enders" and stolen munitions. Condoleezza and the rest of the "Vulcan's" don't know shit about our preparedness.

21. "This was never going to be easy,"
Right--like they said--not!

A short, effective war, and the troops would be greeted with flowers and gratitude. That's what the story was. It was nonsense. We invaded a country to fight a preemptive war on the predication that there were WMD's--yet, there were no WMD's and there was no intent let alone ability to start a war with the US. The connection of Saddam Hussein to any terrorist group is way shaky--truth is, autocrats don't cotton much to competition on their homefield. Since the Cold War, it seems like the military spending focus has been on high-tech weaponry and low on the type of day-to-day ground war stuff. You know--the stuff we're doing now. And even though Bushco knew where they were going and supposedly what they were doing, they still don't have their act together on armor for vehicles, or troops. As the saying goes: "Nothing's easy when you're stupid."

23. In the words of Crow, TOm and Joel from MST3K
"LIAR, LIAR, LIAR"
~ I Accuse my Parents

God, she is so lying. We used up 50% of the batteries allowed for the war in just 6 months. Like hell we were prepared.

24. She's right. The Oil Ministry was secured right away.
Guarding the pipelines will become the top priority after the sham elections, and the OIL WILL FLOW ! So, yes, the plan is coming along well for the oil barons running our Nation.
