Iraq War Could Make Al Qaida Stronger
Edited on Sun Jan-16-05 04:11 PM by Tom Yossarian Joad

WASHINGTON -- The Sunni insurgency war in Iraq could result in a far stronger Al Qaida-aligned network.

The National Intelligence Council warned that the Sunni war against the U.S.-led coalition in Iraq could enhance the capabilities of Al Qaida and related groups. The council envisioned that the Islamic insurgency, led by a new leader, would expand beyond the Middle East to Asia and Europe.

"It could provide recruitment, training grounds, technical skills and language proficiency for a new class of terrorists who are 'professionalized' and for whom political violence becomes an end in itself," the report, entitled "Mapping the Global Future," said. "Facilitated by global communications, the revival of Muslim identity will create a framework for the spread of radical Islamic ideology inside and outside the Middle East, including Southeast Asia, Central Asia and Western Europe, where religious identity has traditionally been strong."

1. Ya think?
This was well known well before the Squatter stuck his fat fetid face into that room full of congressional leaders and said, "Fuck Saddam, we're taking him out."

Why is this news three years later?

2. The Sunni war against the U.S.?
So all the Shi'a are okay with the U.S.? And all the Christians and Iraqis of other religions? It's only the Sunnis fighting the U.S.? Who knew?

...The National Intelligence Council warned that the Sunni war against the U.S.-led coalition in Iraq...

4. my head must have taken a spin because all of a sudden in my mind, the
word war does not seem to apply in iraq. we went to iraq to fight an enemy that was not there, we are occupying a country which does not want to be occupied, we deposed the country's leader without as much as a real war being fired back in our direction and now, our fantasy of pursuing and fighting evil, for a minute, in my brain, seems to be something pulled out of thin air; as if we are fighting a thin air enemy, created for the purpose of letting the bush boy appear powerful, or in charge ... or, for just giving him the excuse to make money out of munitions, concrete and steel. now, of course, just as the bush boy and his gang wanted to overthrow saddam hussein there are those who want to overthrow the bush boy, his gang, and our military; making it all more of a corral fight than a war.

5. Could?
That would have been the appropriate word choice, oh, late 2002-early 2003.

Now the correct word is HAS.

6. We knew this would happen. It was so obvious, you'd almost think
that, for some, this is the desired result.

Winning isn't the point, or even a possible outcome, of the "War on Terror." It must merely be perpetuated.

We-bush-has managed to alienate All of the rest of the world. With the possible exception of Tony Lapdog Blair.

Which is not to say that the non-muslim world will aid them in any way in attacking. We just can't expect any help from anyone else. Thanks George. Great job, you insane Hitler sans mustache.

God Help the USA.

13. You WOULD almost think that, wouldn't you. In fact, by golly, I DO believe
it might be true.

To think that we would actually come out on top if we create massive unrest in the ME is so bizzarre! And yet, testerone-soaked Americans actually believe this is going to happen. I wish, at minimum, they would look at the population numbers of Muslims in the area.

8. Duh.
It's already happened. Why does it take some people so long to catch on? We knew this before the war started.

9. It has happened.
They are just a tad late on this news. It would appear it's real reason was to single out the "Sunni war against the U.S.-led coalition".

Now I'm sure they are a part of the people who are against us, but how many here buy that they are the only ones? We've managed to anger the better part of all Iraqi's. More when you figure in the other Muslim countries who are not pleased with our invasion.

Bush has dug us a very deep hole, with no clue how to climb out of it.

12. reminds me of this
favorite article of mine

"Osama bin Laden did not believe he would destroy America by leveling the World Trade Center; he was maneuvering us into destroying ourselves. He gambled that the swaggering bad ass in the White House would react in an insanely disproportionate way. The calculation was that Bush was obsessed with toppling Saddam Hussein, so when provided with a pretext he would let al Qaida off the hook in favor of conquering Iraq."
