Breaking freeze, Sharon calls Abbas and suggests a meeting
JERUSALEM Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has telephoned Mahmoud Abbas to congratulate him on his election victory as Palestinian president.
.
The conversation, which took place on Tuesday, broke a freeze of almost four years between Israeli leaders and the highest level of the Palestinian leadership.
.
"Mr. Abbas and Mr. Sharon spoke about ways to revive the peace process and about a meeting between the two, which will be set up in the next few days," said Abbas's spokesman, Maher Shalabi.
.
Sharon called Abbas and "congratulated him on his personal achievement and his victory in the elections and wished him success," Sharon's office said. A Sharon aide added that the prime minister offered Abbas cooperation and continuing dialogue and said a meeting will be held "in the near future."

1. Just another media show by Sharon.....
The man cares nothing for "peace". And when his outlandish requests are rejected, he will go back to blaming Abbas.

4. Sharon will say to Abbas . . .
. . . take this deal!

You give up the right of return.
We get 5% of the West Bank and you get 1% of Israeli desert - the big settlements stay.
You get Gaza.
You get part of the Jerusalem municipal district - of course the part that is not in West Jerusalem or the Old City.
We get the suburbs ringing Arab East Jerusalem.

And all this happens - over ten years and if there is one attack we cancel it all.
