(PASCAGOULA, Miss.-AP) January 7 -- Approximately 120 workers at Northrop Grumman's Ingalls shipyard in Pascagoula will be laid off in two weeks.

Northrop Grumman Ship Systems notified the workers yesterday, one day after the company announced that cutbacks in the U.S. Navy's budget likely will cut 2,500 jobs in the next three years at Northrop Grumman's Avondale shipyard in New Orleans and Ingalls in Pascagoula.

The layoffs are in the drafting/design section. Company officials say the affected workers were notified that the layoffs become effective on January 20.

Earlier this week, Northrop Ship Systems president Philip Dur said the current peak of employment can't be sustained with the business they're projecting.
