Gonzales Promises Non - Torture Policy (NYT altered headline)
Mods: I know this is not technically LBN, but the AP story at the NYT originaly had the headline: Gonzales Promises Non - Torture Policy They then went back and changed headline and pretended it was a new story filed this morning, dropping it in the old URL. This is patently dishonest and should be addressed, especially in light of comments by NYT about DU.

Attorney General nominee Alberto Gonzales, bracing for tough questions from lawmakers about his role in the Bush administration's decision to allow aggressive interrogations of terrorism detainees, is pledging to abide by treaties that ban torture of prisoners.

Gonzales said that, if confirmed, he would abide by the Geneva Conventions' strict prohibitions against torture and all treaty obligations, according to testimony prepared for his confirmation hearing Thursday by the Senate Judiciary Committee.

And has been doing so since I first started watching the wires 4 years ago.

(The article is also a dupe, btw)

4. Headlines are set by
the newspaper or accepted as default. The story was at the same URL as the old story, but resubmitted as a "new" story. If it had been a genuine new story, it would have gotten a new URL. Instead, someone at the NYT (it's their site) went back in and altered the headline and submission date.

And I realize it is a dupe, the point was not the story, but the action of the NYT. Who running the web site, Winston Smith?

6. If the Boosh admin had been honest with us from the beginning.....
...an explanation of reasons behind the torture may have helped their cause?

Granted, we are not fighting a normal war, as history and the Geneva rules apply. We're fighting Allah. And we all know Al tests his followers <snort> on many levels. Even the tsunami was a test of faith...read the Newsweek article!

Sidebar: I do not condone torture, but if the Bushbot's weren't so damned secretive and slimey about this whole mess...nevermind...I keep forgetting about returning political favors, this (the Gonzales confirmation) has nothing to do with compassion
:silly:
