Economy, Iraq, dim Bush's post-September 11 luster
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20030911/pl_afp/us_attacks_2years_bush&cid=1521&ncid=1480

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Two years after the attacks that transformed his presidency, George W. Bush faces a nation divided over the difficult occupation in Iraq and the ailing economy, which threaten his 2004 reelection bid.

Opposition Democrats have seized on public discontent and doubts to mount a challenge some thought impossible in the face of Bush's stunning popularity level after the terrorist strikes on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

They have assailed his economic policies, citing the loss of some 2.7 million jobs since he took office; the occupation of Iraq, saying he misstated the size of the cost and the length of the commitment; and even charging his administration has not done enough to prevent another attack.

"This president is a miserable failure on foreign policy and on the economy and he's got to be replaced," according to Representative Dick Gephardt, one of the Democrat presidential contenders.

1. Uh oh. Time for another new product rollout
Tens of thousands of people died for the last one. Will Lil George have to cause hundreds of thousands of deaths this time to get the same poll bump?

4. Polls from the next week will be telling
If W doesn't get a severe spike/turnaround he is deep kimchee and they know it. See my post below.

3. Look at Yahoo editorializing a bit-No things are not following the plan
On the war in Iraq Yahoo left out the FACT that W flat out lied and manipulated intelligence.

Okay so here is how it was supposed to go down. July W has numbers in the 60's, Congress leaves town, and August is a slow news month where sharks or missing blonde girls are the only topics.

But wait something happened. The pressure and questions didn't stop, in fact it increased aided by the Dems running for office and the press actually staying on the "16 word" question. Oh yeah and the whole war thing blew up their faces and in a lot of our kids faces too. His numbers dropped in the "off season". W (Rove) was expecting to come back into DC and direct the discussion and TODAY was to be the crowning of the beginning of the second term but they stayed away from what could have been a hostile NYC and bin Laden pops back up to remind everyone that the unmentioned one is still out there.

Life is what happens when you are making other plans.

7. The corrupt Bush administration is going to need a BIG distraction
It's pretty apparent they don't have anything like a plan going for the economy or protecting our borders or defusing the causes of terrorism. The Twin Towers thing was pretty spectacular, but as Hollywood could have told them, you can only have that huge break-through once. I don't think this group of dolts has the intellectual firepower to come up with something new, so more death and destruction seems to be their only choice.

8. But today was supposed to be huge
I think you could see the melancholy in W's face at the FBI speech yesterday.

There's less than no more money to give away (buy votes) even if YOU aren't getting it. Hell they haven't fully funded "No Child Left Behind" yet nor have the funded Homeland Security, so their whole money thing is out. In fact that might very well have to repeal some of the taxes, net it would still be lower but using their own rhetoric and logic they "raised taxes".

What's left? Other than getting Saddam or OBL which they were supposed to do in the first place.

9. Today WAS supposed to be huge
And you're right; during Chimpy's annual August AWOL, questions kept piling up instead of being dissipated and dispersed. Their plans for a triumphal entry into New York had to be scuttled because no one wanted see to their little rat faces while they mourned the dead (forget that "security" dodge -- they had to say something other than the truth).

And now, being of limited means (thanks, as you said, to having already emptied the federal treasury, but also because they aren't very smart), I'm worried that they will go back to the tried-and-true method of killing a lot of people. For Afghanistan, it took a few thousand deaths to bump up the poll numbers. For Iraq, tens of thousands of people had to die to make Chimpy look popular again. What will it take this time? Probably hundreds of thousands of new grave sites, but where?

10. I'm sure they think there are plenty of people left to kill "over there"
Sad but probably true.

I don't really think it just the killing it's more of a LEADERSHIP thing and being able to change the topic or deflecting. They now will have to answer the same questions asked in different ways over and over and over. Rummy made a name for himself but avoiding that ("I've already answered that question") but not anymore, I dont' think.

Any smart politician (of leader) always holds something back so they can give again. This bozos can only buy elections (and cheat their way in) they aren't very good politicians in the traditional sense. W has gotten PLAYED over and over.

11. Underpants, they can't catch Osama bin Missing OR Sadam

At least they cant be captured alive. If they were, all the collusion between the PNACs and them would come out. And that would inevitably lead to treason trials.

No, those two will just fade into the memory hole of the american people.
