Two Michigan units get extension orders
By Associated Press
LANSING -- Two Michigan National Guard units have received orders that their tour of duty has been extended for a year, the National Guard said.
The two units are 140 soldiers of Company A, 156th Signal Battalion, of Kalamazoo, and 22 members of the 745th Ordnance Company of Grayling.
The troops are mobilized under the authority which normally calls for a year of active duty but adds the potential of a year extension, the National Guard said in a statement released Wednesday.
The orders follow the announcement by the Pentagon on Tuesday that National Guard and reservist deployments will be extended.
"This kind of news is never easy to bear," said Maj. Gen. Tom Cutler, adjutant general of the Michigan Army and Air National Guard. (snip/...)
